While slightly removed from tourist attractions, the hotel offers a free shuttle to the beach and the Mall of the Emirates is a six-minute drive away. Contemporary rooms have cheerful, if a bit generic, decor, as well as minibars, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, and kettles. The rooftop pool is attractive and has a snack bar, but don't expect any views. Other features include an all-day restaurant, hookah lounge, sleek gym, and spa. Note that no alcohol is served on-site, and guests should be sure to request a non-smoking or smoking room. Tourists may prefer the Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa, which has a wealth of additional features, though higher rates.
Scene
Contemporary -- if generic -- hotel attracting tourists and business travelers
The Cosmopolitan Hotel is a seven–story modern building with contemporary, though generic, decor throughout. The minimalist lobby has attractive dark gleaming tile floors, wood paneling, and tan faux-leather armchairs. Restaurant and rooms continue the appealing though unremarkable design, but the rooftop pool adds some personality: It's lined by green and orange loungers, Asian sculptures, and wall planters. While not in the thick of tourist or business neighborhoods, the hotel has a decent location for leisure and business travelers wanting a quiet base to explore the city. Note that this is a dry hotel, so no alcohol is served on the premises (which isn't uncommon for Dubai).
Location
Centrally located in Al Barsha with a nearby metro station
The location of the Cosmopolitan Hotel is not exactly ideal for sightseeing, but being in the centrally located Al Barsha district, it does offer a decent base for exploring Dubai. The Sharaf DG Metro Station is only five minutes away on foot, and it's a relatively pedestrian-friendly area with restaurants, bars, and supermarkets. The hotel also offers a shuttle to Kite Beach, which takes about 20 minutes. The Mall of the Emirates can be reached in six minutes by car or 20 minutes on foot. It's a 10-minute drive to the marina. Dubai International Airport is 25 minutes away by car, while Al Maktoum International Airport is 35 minutes. Parking is free.
Rooms
Generic rooms with tasteful contemporary decor, microwaves, iPod docks, and free Wi-Fi
The hotel has 114 rooms and suites done up in a tasteful contemporary color palette of white, brown, and magenta. Beige floor tiles, accent walls with patterned paper, dark-wood furniture, and striped bed runners give a cheery, though rather forgettable, chain-hotel look. Excellent amenities include work desks, 32- to 42-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, and free Wi-Fi, as well as microwaves, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and minibars. Brown mosaic-tiled bathrooms have shower/tub combos or rainfall showers and separate tubs, plus hairdryers and toiletries. Cosmo Club Rooms have added perks such as free breakfast, espresso machines, free massages, upgraded toiletries, and airport transfers. Guests may want to request a non-smoking room here as smoking is permitted in some.
Features
Extensive facilities include attractive rooftop pool, all-day restaurant, and spa
Features here are varied and of good quality. Certainly the standout is the mosaic-tiled rooftop pool with a hot tub. Its attractive deck has colorful umbrellas and loungers, while the adjacent Mist Pool Lounge offers guests soft drinks and snacks. Views, unfortunately, are disappointing. The hotel's spa offers a range of treatments, including massages, aromatherapy, and reflexology. There is also a sleek 24-hour fitness center with cardio and weight-training equipment in a spacious room with flat-screen TVs and windows that let in lots of natural light. A locker room, sauna, and steam room are also on hand. For dining, Ginger Restaurant is open for all three meals and receives predominantly positive reviews. Social Cafe serves hot drinks and pastries, while a hookah lounge offers over 35 flavors. No alcohol is served on-site (which is common in Dubai). A gift shop, a business center, meeting rooms can also be found here. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
