Bottom Line

The Best Western Premier Deira Hotel (formerly Traders Hotel) is an upscale business hotel located in busy Deira district, a short drive from the airport. Although not the most luxurious 4-pearl hotel in town, it does tick all the boxes, especially for the business traveler. Rooms are spacious and quiet, with solid amenities such as flat-screen TVs, minibars, free Wi-Fi, and electric kettles. Hotel highlights include a small indoor pool, a well-equipped fitness center, a shisha lounge, and a buffet restaurant. However, note that the neighborhood is somewhat unattractive, and that unlike other comparable hotels this property lacks a full spa.

Scene

A business hotel offering good value

Previously the Traders Hotel, as part of renowned Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts, the hotel changed management to Sun & Sky Hospitality Group and became the Best Western Premier Deira Hotel in 2015. Although there are many comparable hotels in Dubai, this one has reasonable rates year-round, which means it's often a better value than others. The lobby is bright and spacious, with a sitting area on either side of the glass revolving doors, ceiling moldings, and a few contemporary pieces of art. Decor here is contemporary if a little generic, with dark brown couches and armchairs around coffee tables, plush carpets in light brown hues, and cream-colored floors and walls. This style extends to most other common spaces, as well as to the rooms, which have a similar palette and corporate feel.

Location

In Deira district, a short drive from the airport and within walking distance of the Metro

The hotel is located in Deira, one of Dubai’s busiest neighborhoods. Although not quite centrally located, the property is within walking distance of a Metro station, which makes moving around town easy, cheap and fast. The neighborhood is certainly not the most appealing in Dubai, and there are limited attractions and dining options around -- but most sights and malls are within a short drive, and taxis are inexpensive. Additionally, the hotel offers free shuttle service to Deira City Center shopping mall and Al Mamzar Beach to all guests. The airport can be reached in about 15 minutes by car.

Rooms

Spacious, contemporary rooms with nice bathrooms and solid amenities

All 250 guest rooms offer generic contemporary decor with dark wood furniture, clean lines, and a brown color palette. Units are spacious -- all fit at least a small sitting area with a couple of armchairs and a coffee table -- and quiet despite location on a busy road near the airport. Most room types offer similar amenities -- including flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, electric kettles with free coffee and tea, minibars, and hotel-brand toiletries -- but unlike higher category rooms, standard units (called Superior) don’t have separate showers and tubs, and only suites have marble bathrooms. Club rooms offer free access to the seventh-floor lounge offering free refreshments and food throughout the day. Premier rooms and suites all have a separate sitting area.

Features

Lots of business-friendly amenities, plus a few perks for leisure travelers

Mostly catering to business travelers, with fully equipped meeting rooms; a business center; an IT help desk open 24/7, and an airy fitness center with cardio, strength-training machines, and free weights, as well as a wellness area with a sauna, a steam room, and a massage cabin. Additionally, the hotel also offers a small indoor pool and whirlpool, and several dining and drinking options -- including a buffet restaurant serving up Italian dishes and Chinese cuisine, a lobby cafe, a juice bar, a nightclub, and an outdoor shisha lounge. Freebies include Wi-Fi, shuttle service to Al Mamzar Beach and Deira City Center shopping mall, and free on-site parking.
