the downtown action. The trendy property has 424 immaculate rooms with plush beds and well-stocked minibars, and those on higher floors can have amazing views of the city and the Pacific coastline. The hip lounge/restaurant and central location are top features, though rates are higher than at comparable downtown hotels. Shiny and super-modern property
Situated in a typical high-rise building combining beige stone and dark glass, the Seattle W is surprisingly space age inside. The hotel has neon pink lettering over the glass entrance -- a small
indication of its futuristic lobby, which has an enormous circular glass fireplace as its centerpiece topped with woven strips of sheet metal. A lounge area surrounds the fireplace, with low-lying couches in black and dark gray. TRACE restaurant resembles a cafeteria of the future with black walls, gold leather seating, and orb-like lights hanging from the ceiling. There are a couple of private dining rooms with dark decor and long tables. Guests -- typically business travelers and tourists wanting easy downtown access -- tend to be drawn to the slick interiors and ambiance.

Situated in a 26-floor high-rise in the middle of urban downtown Seattle, the W is surrounded by a number of other large hotels. There are several office buildings, chain stores, and upscale restaurants within a three-minute walk. The city's famous Pike Place Market is a 12-minute walk away. Seattle Aquarium and Waterfront Park are about 10 minutes' walking distance. CenturyLink Field, where the Seahawks
play, is a mile away, about 15 to 20 minutes on foot or by bus. The Seattle Ferry Terminal is a 10-minute walk away. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport can be reached in less than an hour by Monorail or in about 20 minutes by car.
Rooms
Comfortable and modern rooms but devoid of coffeemakers
There are a total of 415 rooms in six categories, none of which include free Wi-Fi access -- except for Starwood Hotel members. All rooms are spacious, modern, and simply decorated with comfortable, pillow-top mattresses and large windows, through which some have amazing views of the city and coastline. There are sleek wood finishes -- headboards, long desks, and dressers -- and all rooms come with flat-screen TVs, DVD players, minibars, irons and ironing boards, and safes, but oddly no coffeemakers. Mini-fridges are available on request. The six Suites are large with separate bedrooms and living rooms, each equipped with a second, large flat-screen TV, velvety designer couch, and leather armchairs. Bathrooms are large with
attractive shower/tub combos. Suite bathrooms have both glass-enclosed showers and jetted tubs, along with windows with city views.
