Fewer activities than at many other holiday parks
The Littlesea Holiday Park, located on the seaside outside Weymouth, is owned by the large Haven group and offers a range of caravans (trailers) to suit families of varying sizes and budgets, in addition to campsites and the newer Safari Tents. A new pool was added in 2015 as part of a refurbishment, but the condition of the caravans can be rather hit and miss; while all are spacious and perfect for families with their full kitchens, some are spotless and others could use a good clean and some extra maintenance.
The three-pearl park has a fair range of activities to keep families amused -- as well as three restaurants and a convenience store -- but there’s
not quite as much going on here as at other sites. It’s a short drive into
Weymouth town though, and there’s also a beach within walking distance.
Scene
A trailer-style holiday park near the beach, popular for families with children
The
park’s entrance is less than impressive, as it’s set on an industrial estate. The park's grounds, though, are well-maintained, with lots of open green spaces
and some nicely landscaped areas with fragrant lavender plants. It is a fairly small
site compared to other holiday parks, but this could be a bonus for some as
it’s quick and easy to get around. The common areas feel relatively new, the reception area colorful and whimsical, the restaurants like chain eateries, and the playgrounds and sports fields well-maintained. Most visitors here are traveling with
children and looking for a low-budget vacation with lots of activities. There's always plenty of
staff around the site and the lively atmosphere feels convivial and friendly.
Location
Close to the beach and a nature reserve on the edge of an industrial park, a short drive to Weymouth and many attractions
Located
on the Granby Industrial Estate, Littlesea Holiday Park has little in the immediate area and isn't especially impressive upon arrival. But there is a small nature reserve on-site, and picturesque Chesil Beach is around 15 minutes away on foot, but other attractions are
further away. Weymouth town center, with its traditional pier, is a 10-minute
drive away, as is the Weymouth train station. Weymouth Sea Life Center is also a
10-minute drive, and Abottsbury Children's Farm is a 15-minute drive. The popular
Adventure Wonderland theme park is just under an hour’s drive away. There's plenty of parking at the park.
Rooms
Camp in a safari tent or stay in a trailer-style caravan, all with full kitchens
Accommodation
at Littlesea is in trailer-style caravans or safari tents, and campsites are also available for rent. All are decorated simply, with a homey atmosphere and modern appliances. The tents sleep up
to five people in two bedrooms and have a wooden veranda, electric lighting, a
small dining table and chairs, and a small kitchen area with sink, electric
burner, fridge, and microwave. Kitchen utensils, cutlery, and crockery are also
included, as is bed linen. Caravans come in a wide range of sizes and comfort
levels. They all have a small shower room and kitchen area. The Standard is
only heated by a small gas fire in the lounge, and can get cold during the
night. Higher-tier options have full central heating, though. Bed linen is not included
but can be added for an extra fee. Cleanliness and condition of the
caravans seems to vary widely, with some showing signs of mold, dust, and a
smell of cigarette smoke.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pools, kids' clubs, three restaurants, and more
The Littlesea Holiday Park has three restaurants, two of which only serve take-away food. Breakfast,
lunch, and dinner are served at the park's main restaurant, which offers classic dishes
such as pies, burgers, and pasta. The food is fairly expensive though, and items regularly run out. There's also a takeaway fish-and-chip shop, a takeaway pizza place, and
a coffee shop. There's a small convenience store on-site, too. The bar hosts regular musical shows, comedy acts, and hosts trivia in the evenings, although it is a small
space and it can be difficult to get a seat sometimes. There is a good range of
activities to get involved in, although there’s not quite as much as some
larger holiday parks. There are outdoor sports
courts and an amusement arcade, as well as four separate
kids' clubs, which allows each one to be specially tailored to a specific
age group. Parents can stay and join in the activities, or leave the children
in the care of the staff. Older children can get involved in nature themed outdoor activities -- the Park’s Rangers run sessions on things like bird-box
making and bug hunting. Littlesea also has indoor and outdoor swimming pools; the indoor one was renovated in 2015 and, while it isn't huge, is extremely
child-friendly, with features like water sprays and spouts. It can get very
busy during peak season, and timed swim sessions are imposed occasionally.
