Bottom Line

The three-pearl Newport Resort is a casual boutique
resort located in a quiet residential area of Egg Harbor. The
family-oriented property features 59 spacious, apartment-style suites with kitchens, as well as two pools (outdoor and indoor), two play areas, an arcade, and a fitness center. Though the homey decor is simple and bland, the hotel is clean and well maintained, plus it's within walking distance of
the waterfront and numerous restaurants and shops. The hotel is competitively priced, but not inexpensive, and the only meal option is a free continental breakfast. For those traveling without children, the nearby Ashbrooke offers an alternative as an adults-only (16 and older) boutique resort with similar amenities plus comparable rates.

Scene

Family-oriented resort with lots of recreational options

The focus is on fun and relaxation at this resort that’s
tucked behind downtown Egg Harbor in a quiet residential area bordering a large
green space. The expansive lobby includes a cozy living room area with blue leather
sofas and armchairs facing a gas fireplace with a rustic stone mantel, inviting visitors to linger and perhaps skim a book from the lending library. There's also a round oak table that holds a checkerboard, as well as computers available for guests' use. It’s hard to imagine children
staying seated at this friendly resort for long, however, with a video arcade,
two pools, and two well-designed play areas (both indoor and outdoor). The
free bicycles the resort offers are also popular with families who want to
explore the quaint village and miles of waterfront. The dining area, where a continental breakfast is served daily, and the picnic pavilion with several gas grills are also popular places where guests mingle at this casual resort.

Location

Near the waterfront in Egg Harbor, within walking distance of restaurants and shops

This resort is in a residential community in Egg Harbor
directly across from a prairie-like green space, just a two-minute drive or
12-minute walk to the Egg Harbor Marina on Lake Michigan. Some restaurants
and shops are within a three- to five-minute walk, and others are a short drive away. Stonehedge Golf is a two-minute drive, and the Alpine Country Club
golf course can be reached in five minutes by car. Sturgeon Bay and
Peninsula State Park are about a 20-minute drive, while Potawatomi State Park is 35 minutes away. The airports at Green Bay and Milwaukee are approximately 75 minutes and
three hours, respectively.

Rooms

Spacious and clean suites with fully equipped kitchens and whirlpool tubs

The Newport's apartment-like suites are spacious and clean, and come in one-
and two-bedroom options. Their simple decor is homey, if bland and a bit dated, and includes wood furniture, nautical-themed art on beige walls, and gray patterned carpet typically seen in mid-range hotels. Suites have queen sleeper sofas in their living rooms that also feature gas fireplaces, upholstered armchairs, and flat-screen TVs with DVD players. Master bedrooms also have flat-screen TVs, while Two-Bedroom Suites add a second bathroom as well. Dining areas are furnished with round oak tables and chairs, while kitchens come with island bars, sinks and dishwashers, plus stoves/ovens, microwaves, full-size
fridges, toasters, coffeemakers, and oak cabinets with pots, pans, glasses, and
utensils. Both One- and Two-Bedroom Suites have a “Premium” option that features
an upgraded bedding package, rainfall showerheads, and illuminated magnifying mirrors. Bathrooms are average size and rather basic, with the exception of the whirlpool
jets in the shower/tub combos. Some larger suites have separate whirlpool tubs and small walk-in showers enclosed behind glass doors. Each suite also has a private balcony with a table and chairs, and overlook a nearby cherry orchard and green space behind the
property. Room rates include daily housekeeping and free Wi-Fi, though there are reports of spotty coverage.

Features

Indoor and outdoor pools, children’s play areas, fitness center, and free Wi-Fi

The Newport offers a host of on-site features that appeal to families. There's an outdoor and indoor pool
and a large indoor whirlpool and sauna. Both areas have lounge chairs and
tables. Kids can also make use of the indoor and outdoor children’s play areas with jungle
gym/playhouse set ups, while the arcade includes video and pinball machines. Guests are free to borrow books, DVDs, and board games from the hotel's collection, plus free bicycle rentals are available. There's no full restaurant at Newport, but a free continental breakfast is included in room rates. There's also free coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby that's available throughout the day. The dining area includes a microwave. An on-site convenience shop sells gifts, sundries, snacks, frozen entrees, and beverages including beer and wine. Vending machines are also available, and a picnic pavilion includes several gas grills and tables with seating. The hotel's fitness center isn't super roomy, but it has cardio and weight-training machines and free weights. Two
computer stations offer Internet access, and free Wi-Fi is available
throughout, although some guests report that reception is spotty. Free on-site parking is also available.
