Scene

Quaint, converted water mill blends contemporary decor with original features

Occupying a water
mill dating back to the 13th century, The Bickley Mill Inn provides rustic old-world charm. The former mill, with its wood-shuttered
windows and slate roof set amid green slopes dotted with wild flowers and abundant shrubbery, make for quite a rural scene. Interiors combine modern touches with several of the building's original features, such as ancient timber beams and
exposed stone walls. The vibe is peaceful and relaxed, with low ceilings and
limited lighting creating a cozy atmosphere, while plenty of nooks and comfy
corners provide ample spots to unwind. The hotel attracts mostly vacationing couples, as well as some families. It's also a popular wedding
venue.

Location

Set in South Devon's Stoneycombe Valley, between Dartmoor and Torbay

Bickley Mill Inn offers a particularly picturesque setting nestled in the pretty Stoneycombe
Valley of South Devon. The historic market town of Newton Abbot is about a 10-minute drive from the property, and the smaller town of Kingskerswell is even closer -- about a five-minute drive.
The location means easy access to the Dartmoor National Park -- about a 25-minute drive -- while the beautiful stretch of coastline dubbed the English
Riviera (otherwise known as Torbay) is 20 minutes away by car. The hotel also has its own
hillside garden to explore, offering a great spot for country walks and
exploration of the surroundings.

Rooms

Individually styled rooms overlooking pretty gardens

The hotel has 13
individually styled rooms, each with its own name. Decor tends toward contemporary, with neutral tones, carpeted floors, and homey touches.
All rooms include flat-screen TVs with DVD players, tea- and coffee-making equipment, and free Wi-Fi. Most rooms have lovely views
overlooking the gardens, while the Riviera Room has a furnished balcony. Bathrooms
are clean and modern, with heated towel rails and either step-in showers or
shower/tub combos. Some rooms on upper floors require a climb up some steep and narrow
stairs, and might pose a challenge to those with limited mobility.

Features

Restaurant and bar rely on local sourcing; breakfast included in room rate; free Wi-Fi and parking

A cooked breakfast that uses locally sourced produce is served each morning and
included in the room rate -- be aware, though, that service ends early. The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, using fresh fish and meat from the nearby coast and local
farms. A cozy bar with a log fire serves real ales and beers from micro-breweries in the surrounding area, and an outdoor terrace provides a pleasant place to unwind in the warmer months.
Both Wi-Fi and parking are free.
