Bottom Line

As the name suggests, Greektown is a large four-pearl casino hotel in a safe but busy area of downtown Detroit, within walking distance of plenty of attractions. The city’s tram-like People Mover stops at the hotel, making getting around quick and easy. Its 400 rooms are modern, tidy, and bright, with minibars, Keurig coffeemakers, and nice walk-in showers. Property highlights include four restaurants -- plus a Starbucks, room service, a large fitness center, 20,000 square feet of meeting space, and free valet parking. Scene

Modern and busy hotel with a dazzling black-and-stainless steel lobby

The Greektown Casino Hotel is a modern, upscale, 30-story hotel with a dazzling lobby featuring curved walls and flowing lines that echo the energy of the space. There's a huge, two-story wall behind the registration area that resembles a white flowing curtain, and even the polished marble floor and its alternating stripes of brown and beige colors give a little electric staccato. The mirrored ceilings and polished stainless steel used throughout the lobby reflect light and help prevent the space from being too dark, especially useful as several of the walls are painted black. The space generally feels busy, largely because guests -- a mix of business travelers and tourists -- seem always to be on the move here, off to on-site meetings or visiting the adjacent casino or nearby sporting events.

Location

In a busy but safe area of downtown Detroit, within walking distance of plenty of attractions

The hotel is situated in a busy, safe area of downtown Detroit, connected to the Greektown Casino across the street by an enclosed skywalk. The Detroit People Mover that runs a loop throughout downtown has a station inside the hotel, making connections to attractions easy for those who prefer not to walk. There are several restaurants within a block of the hotel and the Ford Field, Comerica Park, and the shops at the GM Renaissance Center are all within a 10-minute or so walk away. The Cobo Center is a bit farther away, but it can be reach by public transit in about 15 minutes. The Detroit Metropolitan Airport is approximately 25 minutes by car, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Tidy, modern rooms with minibars, Keurig coffeemakers, and walk-in showers

Guest rooms at Greektown are clean and modern, with bright and pleasing decor, including neutral patterned carpets, light-maple furniture, and pumpkin-colored details in the drapes, leather seating, and on walls behind the comfortable pillow-top beds. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of natural light, while tasteful contemporary art and white bedding adds more brightness. Standard amenities include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, safes, minibars, Keurig coffeemakers, and magnifying mirrors. Bathrooms are small, but have roomy walk-in rainfall showers, and vanities are separated from the bathrooms by sliding frosted-glass doors. Suite bathrooms are substantially larger and have separate soaking tubs and showers.

Features

Five restaurants, massive fitness center, extensive meeting space, and free valet parking

As a casino hotel, Greektown is chock full of eating and drinking options. The attached casino has three lounges, and the hotel has five restaurants including a Starbucks in the lobby. Prism is the most elegant option, serving steaks and seafood, but it's only open at dinner. Bistro55 serves as full hot breakfast buffet and has a bar and food service later in the day. The Market District and Stack’d both offer fast-casual food and serve everything from pizza and sandwiches to Asian cuisine. There's no pool or spa, but the property does have a massive fitness center on the seventh floor with excellent city views and a good selection of cardio and weight-training equipment. Greektown also has around 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 4000-square-foot Grand Ballroom. A business center is also on-site, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Concierge and laundry services are available, and valet parking is included in room rates.
