Situated right off of Interstate 25 in an industrial,
non-scenic area of Denver, the La Quinta Denver Central is a clean and partially renovated two-and-a-half pearl motel a 15-minute walk from Coors Field and within easy driving distance of most
attractions, thanks to the proximity of the
highway. Although it is an older model of La Quinta, the hotel is cheaper
than many central Denver options, and rooms are fresh. Freebies include Wi-Fi, breakfast, and parking -- and the seasonal pool is a nice bonus.
Scene
Basic, older mid-range chain motel
The La Quinta Denver Central appears from the outside like the classic version of
the chain, with a terracotta tile roof, beige walls, three floors, and open-air hallways. There isn’t much as far as communal space. The breakfast area is directly opposite the front desk; one wall is lined with shelves adorned with a few vases and artistic touches. A flat-screen TV is mounted in the opposite corner, and the waffle station on one side is surrounded by several small
tables, most topped with fresh flowers. There is a fenced-in outdoor pool with
a few patio chairs and tables, but it's hardly a lively scene.
Location
Next to the highway, within walking distance of Coors Field
Situated right off of the busy Interstate 25, the La Quinta Denver Central is surrounded by an unattractive, industrial area that's quite noisy and reeks of car fumes.
However, down Fox Street, Coors Field is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and
several popular sports bars and restaurants are just a couple of minutes further. The
Colorado Convention Center, Mile High Stadium, and Denver Art Museum are less
than 10 minutes away by car and the Denver Aquarium is five minutes away. Denver
International Airport is a 30-minute drive away and the nearest ski area (Loveland
Ski Area) is just over an hour.
Rooms
Updated mattresses in otherwise standard and dated chain hotel
There are 106 rooms at this La Quinta and they are virtually
identical. Parts of the rooms have been upgraded – such as the mattresses,
which are thick and comfortable, as well as the pillows, linens, and headboards, all
of which look and feel clean and new. The curtains and upholstery look a little
tired and the olive green and blue color scheme of the carpet isn’t particularly attractive.
Bathrooms are basic, with wood floors, bright yellow shower curtains, and zero decoration,
but each room has a large flat-screen TV with basic cable channels, free (but
sometimes unreliable) Wi-Fi access, a coffee machine, and ironing facilities. Most rooms overlook the parking lot.
Features
Outdoor pool and free parking, breakfast, and Wi-Fi
The biggest draw of this hotel is its price, which includes
free parking, buffet breakfast, and somewhat unreliable Wi-Fi. An outdoor pool is available in warmer weather, and the hotel also has coin-operated laundry facilities and vending machines.
There is no bar or full restaurant on-site.
