Bottom Line

The Comfort Inn Wheat Ridge is a 65-room budget property set beside a lovely park, a short drive from downtown Denver. Located just off Interstate 70, the hotel is a good option for people wanting to visit Colorado ski areas and still have easy access to the city. The property is dated, but includes n indoor pool with a hot tub and free continental breakfast. Scene

Budget-friendly property

This Comfort Inn property integrates nods to the nearby ski resorts in its interior design. The indoor pool room has wooden walls and ceilings, and the spacious lobby is decorated with dark leather couches, a fireplace, and wall-mounted skis and snowshoes. Beyond these touches, the Comfort Inn has the standard appearance of a chain hotel. The three-story brick and stucco property has generic carpeting and beige walls in the hallways. There's a large parking lot out front, and the building is flanked by tall, leafy trees. Free coffee and a pitcher of lemon water in the lobby are nice touches.

Location

On a city park and close to Denver

The hotel is next to a city park in Wheat Ridge, about 15 to 20 minutes from downtown Denver via the I-70. Guests are also within about an hour of ski resorts, including Loveland Ski Area and Winter Park. Red Rocks Amphitheater is about 25 minutes away by car and Denver International Airport can be reached in 45 minutes.

Rooms

Generic but clean rooms with flat-screen TVs; some have pretty views

Guest rooms are clean with typical chain hotel decor, including brownish carpeting, generic wood furniture and wall art, and dark blue and red accents. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Suites also have sofa beds and microwaves. Guests can choose to have firm or soft pillows, and each room has a small writing desk with a lamp. Bathrooms have beige walls, tile floors, and white plastic shower/tub combos. Some rooms overlook the I-70, but others have views of Fruitdale Park or the mountains in the distance; rooms on higher levels have the best views.

Features

Indoor pool and hot tub, free continental breakfast, and park access

The Comfort Inn's indoor pool and hot tub are housed in a room with all-wood walls and ceilings -- a nice change from the typical motel pool setting. There's a small carpeted fitness center with a few cardio machines, some free weights, and a single flat-screen TV. The guest laundry area has a washing machine and dryer, along with a microwave and a few vending machines. Continental breakfast is free every day and includes hot and cold items, though there tends to be a bit of a wait for waffles. Pets are welcome, and Fruitdale Park directly behind the hotel offers an off-leash dog run. Wi-Fi and parking are free.
