Scene

Historic mansion with traditional interiors

This bed and breakfast is set in an historic mansion built in the Richardson Romanesque style in 1891, and sits on a stately corner of Denver's Millionaires Row. The red sandstone building is a Denver and National Landmark, and has a lovely front porch fronted by a well-kept lawn, leafy shrubs, and bright pink flowers. Inside, the vibe is traditional and cozy, with white walls, wood floors, and antique wood furniture in the lobby.  A sitting room off the lobby is bright and neatly arranged with a fireplace and a piano, and a couple of armchairs and a velvet couch near a large window. Evening wine service with Colorado wines offers a chance for guests to mingle with each other and the innkeepers -- a father and daughter from Texas. Outside, in addition to the front porch, guests can relax on a small stone patio with white wicker chairs overlooking the lawn. Bouquets of fresh flowers, framed antique photos, and stained glass windows throughout the home lend charm.

Location

On Millionaires Row within walking distance of restaurants

The hotel is set on an elegant street lined with impressive stone homes on Denver's historic Millionaires Row in the leafy Capitol Hill neighborhood. The home is also in the Museum District, and within about a half-mile of the Capitol Building, the History Colorado Center, and the Denver Art Museum. The 16th Street Mall, a pedestrian area filled with shops and restaurants, is just over a mile away -- a five-minute drive or 25-minute walk. A bus stop at 12th Avenue and Pennsylvania Street is just a minute walk from the hotel. Denver International Airport is about a half-hour drive away.

Rooms

Homey and traditional with antique furnishings and turn-of-the-century style

Keeping with owners' emphasis on personalized hospitality, each of the eight guest rooms is individually decorated and named. The homey, turn-of-the-century decor may feel a bit dated for some guests' taste, with combinations of floral prints, antique wood furnishings, and deep green carpeting. Most rooms have views of surrounding historic homes, the Denver skyline, or the Rocky Mountains. Each room has a mini-fridge with free beverages (non-alcoholic), writing desk, air-conditioning, and cable TV. Some rooms have special features like balconies, whirlpool tubs, and gas fireplaces. Bathrooms vary -- some have walk-in showers, while others have shower/tub combos or tubs for two. The Bluebell Suite has a private entrance and solarium.

Features

Free home-cooked breakfast and evening wine service

The owner prepares a free breakfast daily, with decadent dishes like bread pudding. Guests are also welcome to join a gathering every evening when Colorado wines are served. The location of the hotel -- within a short walk of museums and restaurants -- is another great feature. The hotel can be rented out for small business gatherings, and faxing and copying services are available for a small fee. Wi-Fi and parking are free.
