Wright By The Sea is a moderately priced hotel of apartment-style suites in Delray Beach. The 29 rooms range from studios to two-bedroom apartments and all contain a full kitchen set-up. While some of the rooms have a thrown-together or second-hand feel (with tropical prints and imposing wood furniture), overall the property is very clean, has a laid-back feel, and offers friendly staff. Right off the ocean, the hotel is convenient for vacationers looking for a quiet beach getaway. Restaurants and the grocery store are a few minutes drive away; there is no restaurant on-site.
Scene
Laid-back, beachside hotel with nostalgic charm
While little at the Wright By The Sea is modern, the hotel manages to create a kind of lovely nostalgic feel -- the kidney-shaped pool, the outdoor shuffleboard, even the squat, motel shape of the building hark back to the 1950s when the hotel opened. Instead of appearing downtrodden, though, there’s a yesteryear charm to the common spaces. The offerings are simple, but not unappealing. Made up of apartments complete with kitchens, there’s a keep-to-yourself quality of the hotel, and the area remains fairly quiet usually. There’s a grill and plenty of seating around between the pool and beach for guests who’d like to have a meal while enjoying the water.
Location
In a quiet area off the beach, a short drive to restaurants and the grocery store
Wright by the Sea has a beachfront location in Delray Beach, Florida. A quiet area surrounded by condos and other beachside hotels, there aren’t many restaurants in walking distance, but take Linton Boulevard over the Gulf Stream and there’s more. The Publix supermarket is about a five-minute drive. The hotel is about a 30-minute drive north or south to Palm Beach International Airport and the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, respectively.
Rooms
Large, simple, and quaint apartments with full kitchens
There’s nothing fancy about the apartments at Wright By the Sea. Most units follow an obvious beach theme, with ocean blue bedspreads with seashells on them, aquamarine curtains, light colored cabinetry, and wicker furniture. The "Luxury" units forgo the beach theme for more classic tastes, but the furniture feels dated. The layout of the rooms can be a little odd -- in studio units, the refrigerator is in a pass-through closet area on the way to the bathroom -- but they are spacious and the furnishings are comfortable, if not lavish. Each kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, a stove and oven, a coffeemaker, a toaster, and microwave. The larger units have dishwashers too. Bathrooms are average and the hotel provides Aroma body products. There might be a little rust on the showerhead, but otherwise they are clean and functional.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and coffee, plus outdoor shuffleboard and croquet and an ocean-view patio
A modest property, Wright By The Sea offers guests a quiet, restful, beach vacation. The kidney-shaped pool is not large, but is heated, and the patio and pavilion space around it provide a nice congregating space. There’s a grill there, too. Outdoor games include shuffleboard, basketball, table tennis, and croquet. There’s a small “library” (two shelves of books), and coffee and the local papers are available near the check-in desk. All rooms come with cable TV on flat-screen TVs, and the whole hotel has free Wi-Fi.
