Scene
Cozy and elegant boutique hotel with indoor and outdoor seating areas, popular with vacationers
Avenue Inn & Spa is a pretty boutique hotel that caters primarily to vacationing families and couples spending time in Rehoboth Beach. Its exterior, a beige-and-white building with white railings and green tile roofs that give it a vaguely colonial beach town feel, blends in well with the surrounding area. Inside, the lobby is modern but casual, with wood-finish floors, off-white trim and furniture, and a mix of recessed lightings and suspended lightbulb fixtures. There's plenty of room to sit around in the lobby, with lots of plush chairs and sofas plus a flat-screen TV, plus additional warm-weather seating on an outdoor patio with wicker chairs and matching tables.
Location
In the heart of Rehoboth Beach, near shops and dining, and a block from the shoreline and boardwalk
This hotel is located right in Rehoboth, about a block away (a five-minute walk) from Rehoboth Beach and its boardwalk. The area is filled with restaurants, bars, and shops of all sorts, and there are a couple of random attractions in the immediate area, including a mini-golf place and the Funland Amuseument Park. Both Cranberry Park and Lake Gerar Park take under 10 minutes to reach on foot. It's about 10 minutes by car to the lush Gordon Pond Wildlife Area. Eagle Crest-Hudson Airport in Milton is a 20-minute drive away. It's about a three-hour to Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
Rooms
Wide range of room types, all with individual air-conditioning and some with balconies and/or whirlpool hot tubs
This hotel offers a huge range of rooms and suites with studio (single room) or two-room configurations. Most come with king or queen beds (though some add sleeper sofas), and many feature balconies. All units have similar amenities, including mini-fridges, personal air-conditioning units, flat-screen TVs with cable, irons and ironing boards, microwaves, and free Wi-Fi. Decor is relatively consistent across categories; it's the size, layout, and views that distinguish rooms here. However, a few units have special touches such as poster beds, hot tubs, or plush beige carpeting. You can generally expect wood-finish parquet floors, medium-toned wooden cabinets and matching tables and desks, and soft furnishings in muted blue hues spruced up with red-and-beige patterned throw cushions and blackout drapes. Wall art is of the generically oceanic variety (think: framed sketches of crabs and starfish). Bathrooms are simple but not unpleasant, with lots of beige tiling and gray-and-white granite or marble. Many have shower/tub combos, though some units, such as those with whirlpool tubs, have separate walk-in showers. All come with hairdryers and toiletries from Bath & Body Works. Note that while rooms are generally quiet, those facing the road can get noisy at times. Some of the balconies face the parking lot.
Features
Great spa with wide range of treatments, indoor pool, sunbathing lounge with a hot tub, and free breakfast
The star attraction of this hotel is its luxury spa, Avenue Apothecary & Spa, which offers all sorts of treatments including massages, facials, and wraps along with beauty services such as manicures, pedicures, and waxing. Other wellness features include a lovely indoor pool that opens up out onto an outdoor sunbathing deck with lounge chairs and a whirlpool hot tub. There's a mid-size fitness center stocked with treadmills, free weights, and a sauna. There's also a coin-operated washer and dryer set. For those looking for some quiet relaxation time, there's an adult lounge with tables, chairs, and a fireplace. Wi-Fi is free in rooms throughout the hotel. There's also plenty of free on-site and underground parking available. Buffet breakfast is included in room rates and is served at the hotel's dedicated breakfast room. The inn also offers free wine and cheese every afternoon and freshly baked cookies in the evenings. There is an on-site restaurant, the Blue Hen, that's open for happy hour and dinner (plus it has a fire pit), but it's not affiliated with the hotel and thus room service is not available (though they do offer take-out).
