The 103-room mid-range DoubleTree by Hilton at Cadillac Jack's is a full-service casino and hotel located on Deadwood's Main Street, a short trolley ride from the town's major attractions. The hotel is clean and updated, but the focus is squarely on the casino, and the decor and atmosphere reflect the 24/7 gaming vibe. Cadillac Jack's is business- and family-friendly, but offers no activities for kids. Rooms are spacious and clean, with modern bathrooms, but lack views and local charm. Guests can use the bright indoor pool and hot tub at the adjoining SpringHill Suites Deadwood -- which may also be worth considering, as it offers slightly more stylish decor, a patio with fire pit, and free breakfast.
Scene
A casino hotel with 24/7 energy but no Old West Deadwood feel
DoubleTree by Hilton at Cadillac Jack's is a casino-centric hotel with business-friendly features, including a business center, meeting rooms and conference space, and event planning services. Kids are welcome, and there are plenty of family-friendly attractions nearby, but the hotel itself has the no-windows, suspended-time vibe that encourages guests to hit the gaming tables. Many guest rooms look straight into a rocky cliffside. The wall-to-wall carpets are busy, the ceilings are low, and the lights are bright and colorful -- from the moment guests enter through the casino entrance, as there's no separate hotel lobby. The restaurant, Brown Rock Sports Cafe, and neighboring bar walls are hung with large flat-screen TVs and sports memorabilia, and there's a TV at every booth, but no nod to the Old West history of Deadwood. It's impossible to avoid Cadillac Jacks Casino, but gambling fans or guests who want a clean, updated place to stay while exploring the area will find this hotel a good bet.
Location
Near Deadwood's tourist center and popular local sights, great for day trips to Mt. Rushmore
DoubleTree by Hilton at Cadillac Jack's is easy to reach, just off the interstate, with plenty of free parking for cars as well as RVs. The hotel is surrounded by commercial properties, and the SpringHill Suites, which also adjoin the casino. The free trolley to the tourist center of Deadwood stops in front of the resort. The Adams Museum and Days of ’76 Museum and Rodeo Grounds are within a 15-minute walk of the lobby. Other nearby attractions include the Broken Boot Gold Mine, a one-and-a-half-mile drive, and Mickelson Trail, a 109-mile hiking trail in the Black Hills. Lake Pactola offers beaches, fishing, and hiking, and is located 29 miles from the resort. The indoor WaTiki Waterpark Resort is 43 miles away by car. Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Bear Country Wildlife Park, Reptile Gardens, and the Crazy Horse Memorial are all over an hour's drive from Cadillac Jacks. Rapid City and its regional airport are about one hour away by car.
Rooms
Spacious and clean but dark, with contemporary bathrooms, and smoking and non-smoking options
Rooms at DoubleTree by Hilton at Cadillac Jack's are large and clean. Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available; guests should request their preference before arrival, as the smokers’ floor does smell like cigarettes. Rooms come with either two queen-size or one king-size bed, all with pillow-top mattresses. Decor includes standard wall-to-wall carpeting, wooden headboards, attractive iron lamps, makeup vanity tables with stools, and good-looking wood armoires housing microwaves, mini-fridges, laptop safes, and high-definition flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are spacious, with shower/tub combos, marble sinks, free toiletries, and plenty of counter space. Guest rooms get little natural light, and only front-facing rooms have any kind of view -- across the parking lot. Rooms facing the back are quieter, but look directly into the side of a mountain.
Features
Full-service casino, sports bar and restaurant, indoor pool, fitness center, and Starbucks coffee
DoubleTree by Hilton at Cadillac Jack's has a full-service, 24/7 casino with individual gaming rooms, more than 200 slot machines, and keno; there's a smoking lounge with flat-screen TVs so gamblers don’t have to leave the premises for a cigarette. The casino’s restaurant, the Brown Rock Sports Cafe, serves as the hotel’s restaurant, and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus made up of sports bar-type food, including pizza, burgers, salads, and, on Sunday game days, beer and wing specials. There's a coffee shop serving Starbucks brew on-site, and a gift shop/newsstand with snacks and T-shirts on hand. Hotel guests have access to the indoor pool and hot tub at the adjoining SpringHill Suites; the pool is in a solarium, surrounded by a large deck that is lined with tables and chairs. The hotels also share a fitness center, a small, carpeted room with a drop ceiling, containing a few of the latest cardio machines, but no weight equipment. Cadillac Jacks has several meeting rooms and a one-terminal business center; banquet and meeting services are available for conferences or special events. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Pets are allowed in some rooms, though fees apply.
