The Hyatt Place Daytona Beach-Oceanfront is a three-pearl hotel that offers travelers accommodations on a relatively quiet stretch of beach south of Daytona Beach’s main drag. It’s a 20-minute drive to Daytona’s top attractions, but there are still plenty of dining options a short walk away. All 143 units have private balconies with partial or full ocean views and sleeper sofas, plus flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, but no microwaves. The oceanfront pool with bar service is a highlight, and there's a fitness center, but it’s cramped. Freebies include a hot breakfast buffet, on-site parking, and Wi-Fi throughout. Travelers looking for something more upscale can check out The Shores Resort and Spa.
Scene
A casual and quiet beachfront hotel with a spacious year-round heated pool
Originally built in the 1970s, this 10-story property became the first oceanfront Hyatt Place when it opened in 2013 following an extensive renovation. It also received upgrades following damage from Hurricane Matthew that forced it to close for five weeks in late 2016. The heated, year-round oceanfront pool is a favorite gathering place, with music and bar service during Daytona’s balmy warm months. It’s generally a quiet and peaceful property, but like other area hotels, it can get quiet crowded during spring break, Daytona Bike Week, and race events at the Speedway. The hotel mainly draws leisure travelers, primarily families and some couples.
Location
On the beach, but the heart of the city isn't within walking distance
The Hyatt Place is a beachfront property located in the Daytona Beach Shores area south of Daytona Beach’s famous Boardwalk. It’s in a quieter area than the often raucous main drag near the Boardwalk, but several restaurants and shops area nearby, including a Red Lobster, Dairy Queen, Denny’s, and Subway across the street. It’s a straight shot on South Atlantic Avenue to the heart of Daytona Beach, but traffic often can make it a longer trip. It takes approximately 17 minutes by car to reach the Boardwalk, Daytona Lagoon waterpark, and Ocean Center events center. It’s about a 20-minute drive to Daytona International Speedway and to Daytona Beach International Airport. Drive times to Orlando and the Kennedy Space Center are approximately one hour.
Rooms
Modern and streamline, all with balconies, sleeper sofas, and mini-fridges, but no microwaves
Streamline guest rooms have contemporary decor and a palette of soft, neutral tones. Charcoal-gray is used for accent walls, carpet, drapes, and upholstered sleeper sofas, which are set in separate seating areas with leather ottomans. The light-wood, modular furniture includes headboards, nightstands, dressers, and desks with leather office chairs. Frosted glass partial walls separate beds from seating areas, and all units have small, private furnished balconies with partial or full panoramic ocean views. Standard amenities include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi, but there are no microwaves. Bathrooms are equally spacious and pleasingly modern. They feature wide, white ceramic and wood vanities, huge mirrors, and excellent lighting, and come with hairdryers and toiletries. Kings have walk-in showers with glass doors, while Double Queens contain shower/tub combos. With the hotel's designated quiet time between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m., the rooms are generally quiet throughout the night.
