This upper-middle-range resort is located on Lopud, a car-free island a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik. Its quiet beachfront location attracts leisure travelers and families who are looking for a resort atmosphere, and almost all areas of the resort offer panoramic sea views. The 182 guest rooms are spacious and have balconies with sea views. Amenities include two infinity pools, three restaurants, three bars, and a spa with a sauna, plus a Turkish bath, a whirlpool, and a relaxation area. For a resort hotel, rates are competitive, but notable downsides include extra charges for the spa, premium beach chairs, and ferry service. Travelers looking for a similar resort-style property may want to compare rates and features at the Admiral Grand Hotel, about a 40-minute drive from Dubrovnik.
Scene
Resort hotel popular with package tourists
Lafodia Hotel & Resort opened in 2011 and is located on a quiet beachfront location with no other buildings in the immediate vicinity. The hotel is housed in a modern, but mostly characterless, building built in a U-shape so that each guest room has a balcony with at least partial views of the sea. The interiors of the hotel's public spaces are super modern. The semi-circular-shaped lobby area is bright, with white counters, mirrored ceilings, and four neon-pink molded pillars. Potted plants and succulents add greenery to the space. The hotel is popular with leisure travelers, and is part of holiday packages offered by European holiday companies. This is also a popular place for families to stay because of the car-free environment and beachfront location.
Location
Located on a car-free island off the Dalmatian Coast, right on the beach
Lafodia Hotel & Resort is situated on the car-free island of Lopud, one of the islands located in Southern Adriatic off the Dalmatian Coast. Very few hotels are located on the island, and this is the only resort. There are a few cafes, shops, and restaurants which can be easily reached on foot from the resort. It's a 55-minute ferry ride from Lopud to Dubrovnik and an additional half-hour drive to the airport from Dubrovnik's port.
Rooms
Spacious guest rooms with sea-facing balconies
The guest rooms at the Lafodia are spacious and light-filled. Clean lines and simple furnishings provide a minimalist look throughout the spaces. The pale-beige and light-blue color palette is reminiscent of the sand and sea, and a few framed photographic prints adorn the walls. All rooms have furnished sea-facing balconies. Larger rooms include separate living areas set with a sofa and ottoman and some suites have an outdoor hot tub. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, electric kettles, safes, and slippers. Bathrooms are fitted with either shower/tub combos or shower stalls, and amenities include hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and free toiletries.
Features
Numerous resort-style amenities including restaurants, bars, pools, and a spa
This resort offers a number of excellent extra features. A breakfast buffet is included in the room rates and includes a large selection of cold and hot dishes. A buffet dinner is also served here, but it costs extra. The on-site Dalmar restaurant serves a menu of Croatian cuisine as well as Italian and international dishes, and offers sweeping views of Lopud Bay through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Additional seating is available on a bay-facing patio. The Scarlet Restaurant serves Italian and international cuisine, and Itali is the hotel's pizzeria. There's also a bakery and pastry shop. La Baja Beach Bar & Grill serves snacks, salads, drinks, and cocktails. Next to the pool is the Eleven Bar, where guests can also order light meals, salads, and drinks. Des Arts is the indoor lounge bar, which also has an outdoor terrace. Note that prices at the restaurants tend to be steep, and the island doesn't offer many other dining options.
Two generously sized free-form infinity pools look out over Lopud Bay, and there are also two outdoor whirlpools. The beachfront is just beyond the pool area and has rows of lounge chairs for guest use, but chairs in the two rows closest to the water cost a fee to use. There's also a VIP beach area (charged extra) with a cabana, two lounge chairs, a fruit basket, and a personal waiter. The tiny fitness center is located in a covered outdoor area, and only has a few weight machines available. There are also several running and walking trails. Other activities include cycling, ping-pong, aqua aerobics, excursions, boat and kayak rentals, windsurfing, waterskiing, and paragliding. Bike rentals are available.
For a fee, guests can access Waterhill Lafodia Spa on the seventh floor, which features a wide range of spa facilities including a sauna, a Turkish bath, a whirlpool, a relaxation area, and massage and beauty treatments. For events and business meetings, there's a large meeting room that can be divided into two separate meeting rooms seating up to 180 people. Other handy services include a foreign exchange desk, a small convenience store, and (for a fee) a regular boat transfer service to Dubrovnik or the mainland. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
