Hotel Orphee

Hotel Orphee is a simply designed property -- perhaps too simple for some guests' tastes. It looks typical of Croatian hotels built in the late 20th century, with its clay tile roof and low-lying architecture. Decor is starting to look outdated, and there's not a ton of atmosphere in the common areas. The lobby features beige tile floors and white walls as well as lots of windows that let in natural light. Wicker and wood tables and chairs provide a place to sit in the reception area. The best place to relax here is on the two-level restaurant terrace overlooking the sea and swimming pool. Tourists looking for a property with a private vibe would appreciate this hotel and its quiet setting in a small town outside Dubrovnik. However, guests with mobility issues should stay elsewhere, as there are no elevators and some rooms are a long walk from the restaurant. 

Hotel Orphee is located outside Dubrovnik in the small town of Plat, surrounded by a forest on one side and the beach and pool on the other. There are many other apartment-style properties in the surrounding area, and the beach is directly accessible from the property. However, there's only one restaurant within a 15-minute walk, so guests will need to drive if they want to eat off-site. The best thing about this location is its close proximity to the airport -- just a 10-minute drive away. It's about a 20-minute drive from the hotel to Dubrovnik's Old Town. Sights such as Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Maritime Museum, and the Old Town Market are also within a 20-minute drive. 

Rooms at the Hotel Orphee could use some extra attention. Forest-green carpet and drapes combine with light-wood built-in beds and nightstands for an outdated look. Each room has a desk and a pair of wooden chairs. An old painting of a ship at sea decorates the otherwise plain white walls. All rooms have balconies, some overlooking the ocean. Other amenities include flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and air-conditioning. White bathrooms feature dated shower/tub combos with basic toiletries and old-fashioned hairdryers. Guests have complained of minor maintenance issues such as leaky air-conditioning and slow-draining showers. Wi-Fi typically does not work in most rooms. 

There aren't many extra features at this mid-range property. A restaurant serves free buffet breakfast that includes eggs, cheeses, and meats. Dinner is also served, but guests aren't wild about the menu; half-board rates are available. There's also a poolside bar/cafe serving drinks and light snacks. Coffee and tea are available in the lobby. The outdoor saltwater pool is unheated, so it can be chilly -- and also crowded, since it's shared by the whole complex. Direct access to a private beach is available. The hotel also has a tiny gym and self-service laundry facilities. Free Wi-Fi is typically inaccessible throughout the property, according to guests. Parking is free.
