The Ramada Dallas North Hotel and Conference
Center is a value property that offers spacious rooms and attractive rates in a convenient north Dallas location at the intersection of the I-635 with the N. Central Expressway. Some rooms offer kitchenettes, separate living rooms, or heart-shaped whirlpool tubs. An adjacent Mexican restaurant serves three meals daily, and an outdoor pool offers a
place to relax in warmer months. But rooms are tired and in need of updates, and some could use a thorough, top-to-bottom cleaning. There are several alternative nearby that travelers might want to check out, such as the Best Western Dallas Hotel & Conference Center, which
offers room service and a free breakfast.
Scene
Value hotel with transient travelers
The lobby of this Ramada makes a nice first impression for a
budget-oriented hotel. It’s spacious enough for two separate sitting areas, one of which has brown leather sofas and a black granite coffee table, while the other
has a cluster of purple upholstered armchairs encircling a glass-topped table. The large dark wood and black granite-topped reception desk is
framed by white tile. There are multi-color wood columns and tall floor lamps
that add a classy touch, while a large flat-screen TV offers some entertainment. There is a Mexican restaurant adjoining the lobby, and it’s a popular
place with red leather booths, a large, semi-circular bar, and flat-screen TVs. Overall, though tired and worn, this is a busy hotel that
caters to transient budget travelers.
Location
In north Dallas, near LBJ and N. Central Expressway intersection
The hotel is located in a busy urban area in north Dallas,
near the intersection of the Interstate 635 (LBJ Expressway) beltway with the North
Central Expressway (75). I-635 is accessed by car in about three minutes. A
fast-food restaurant and gas station with a food mart are the only destinations
within a reasonable walk (about two minutes), but several other restaurants are a brief drive of three to five minutes. The Galleria Dallas shopping
center’s many shops and restaurants are about an eight-minute drive, and
Southern Methodist University is a 15-minute drive. Dallas Love Field airport
is a 20-minute drive, while Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is
approximately 25 minutes away. AT&T Stadium and Six Flags Arlington are
about 30 minutes away, depending on traffic, and downtown Dallas attractions
such as the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center and American Airlines
Center can be reached in about 15 to 20 minutes. The area is generally safe, but some
guests report feeling a bit uncomfortable parking their cars in the hotel lot.
Rooms
Spacious, but dated rooms with cleanliness and maintenance issues, plus small bathrooms
Guest rooms at this Ramada come with a few options, but most are either king or
two queen configurations. They are spacious -- especially for a budget hotel -- with even the Standard King Room offering enough space for a sofa, armchair, and coffee table in addition to a desk with an office chair. Suites have a separate sitting room with a sofa, coffee
table, and armchair, and some have a heart-shaped whirlpool tub that sits outside
the bathroom. Some suites also have kitchenettes with oak cabinets, sinks, and cooktops. All rooms include mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, and flat-screen TVs. Decor is spare and budget-quality, with light wood
furniture, standard hotel Berber-style carpets, budget comforters, dated patterned
drapes, and nondescript art on the walls -- overall, rooms are tired
and rather dark and dreary. Some guests have reported stained carpets and upholstered furniture as well as signs of wear and tear on the furnishings,
peeling or scuffed wallpaper, and rust stains in the tub. There have also been reports of maintenance issues with plumbing, electrical fixtures,
coffeemakers, lamps, TVs, and other aspects. Bathrooms are cramped and furnished with small granite-top vanities and standard shower/tub combos. Rooms have either a ground-floor
patio or small balcony that's accessed by a sliding glass door. Some offer pool views, while others
overlook the surrounding streets and highways.
Features
Outdoor pool, adjoining restaurant, fitness center, meeting space, and free parking and Wi-Fi
For a budget hotel, this Ramada has a good amount of on-site features. There's an
independently-operated Mexican restaurant and lounge attached to the hotel that
serves breakfast (not included in the room rate), lunch, and dinner daily. The hotel has an outdoor pool surrounded by a sundeck lined with lounge
chairs, tables, and a gas grill. The small fitness center has cardio machines
and free weights. There's 2,500-square-feet of meeting space in three rooms, as well as a business center with a computer, Internet access, and a printer. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Dry-cleaning services
are available, and there are coin-operated laundry facilities on-site. Parking is free in a large lot.
