Bottom Line

Kapetanios Odyssia is a simple, three-pearl hotel located in the heart of Limassol, a one-minute walk from the beach and a 20-minute walk to Old Town. There are 159 rooms in total, all of which have furnished balconies and mostly bland interiors. Amenities include a lovely outdoor pool with a mosaic bottom and hydromassage features (renovated in 2016) along with a kids' pool, a playground, and a simple fitness center. The hotel also has a few dining options, with half- and full-board packages available, and there's live entertainment four times a week, with traditional Cypriote dancing once a week. Overall, it's a solid mid-range choice for those wanting to be in the city center, but there are nicer beachfront options just up the coast, such as the all-inclusive St Raphael Resort.

Scene

Mid-range city hotel with renovated pool deck; popular with tourists and business travelers

Kapetanios Odyssia is a simple, but pleasant, mid-range property housed in a seven-story cream-color apartment-style tower that was built in 1991. The most recent renovations were in 2016, and while the outdoor spaces -- particularly the poolside patio -- feel modern and fresh, the lobby has a more traditional vibe, with two seating areas with simple soft furnishings in hues of burgundy and beige and Greek music playing softly in background. The hotel attracts tourists and business travelers alike, with guests from around the world -- particularly the United Kingdom and Russia -- along with a decent number of Cypriots and Greeks. Those with compromised mobility should note that there are a couple of elevators, but they are tiny, and a ramp from the street to the front door, but no properly accessible rooms.

Location

Limassol city center location, a one-minute walk from the beach and a short drive to Old Town

Kapetanios Odyssia is located right in the heart of the Limassol city center, a one-minute walk from the beach and about 10 minutes on foot from the Limassol Zoo. It's situated behind a private apartment building and can be difficult to find through Google Maps from the north, but those approaching from the south shouldn't have a problem locating the hotel. It's about a 20-minute walk to the edge of Old Town and a half-hour on foot (or seven minutes by car) to Limassol Castle. Getting to Limassol Marina takes just a few minutes more. Further afield, it's about a one-hour drive to both Larnaca and Paphos, each of which has an airport. The capital city of Nicosia and Mount Olympos take just over an hour to reach.

Rooms

Simple, but bland, rooms with balconies and air-conditioning

Kapetanios Odyssia offers both Standard and Superior Rooms, which are more or less the same in terms of decor, with easy-to-forget medium wood furniture and simple prints on the walls. Superior Rooms are all on the second floor and have king beds and sofa beds, along with coffee- and tea-making facilities and pool-facing balconies with lounge chairs. Also located on the second floor, there's also a single One-Bedroom Executive Suite with an inland view. All room categories feature minibars, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs, but they lack safes. Bathrooms are more or less the same across categories, with shower/tub combos and simple toiletries.

Features

Lovely hydromassage pool, multiple restaurants with live entertainment, Irish pub, and limited underground parking

Features at this hotel are geared towards leisure travelers and include a lovely outdoor pool that was renovated in 2016 to add a mosaic bottom and hydromassage features. At one end of the pool is a toddler pool and a small playground, and there's a poolside bar -- Appollo -- with cushioned seating and plenty of shade. Bed-and-breakfast, half-board, and full-board packages are available, and all three meals are generally served in the main Diana Restaurant, with both buffet and a la carte options available. Evening entertainment is provided here four times a week (including Cypriot folk performances once a week). Room service is available, but only during restaurant hours. There's also a smaller restaurant -- Lido Tavern -- that's used at lunchtime when occupancy is low. It can also be rented out for private events. For something a bit more casual, O'Brien's Pub does a decent job of replicating the feel of a traditional Irish pub, with lots of dark wood and a few Tiffany lamps strung from the ceiling. Other hotel features include a simple, bare-bones spa with a sauna and whirlpool hot tub that's free for those getting treatments and can be used by everyone else for a fee. There are also two function spaces, including a largish ballroom function for meetings and weddings. Parking is available free of charge on the street or in a small underground parking lot. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel for those with their own devices, and there are a couple of computers in the lobby that are free to use.
