This expansive property manages to pack in a lot of features, including a gorgeous centerpiece swimming pool, grassy areas dotted with lounge chairs, a relaxing spa, high-end fitness facilities, and a kids' club. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are on offer. There are also four restaurants serving high quality food, with buffet and a la carte options. All-inclusive packages are available, but not required. Travelers shopping around may also want to consider Louis Imperial Beach, which is a little closer to the heart of Paphos and offers similar amenities (but rates are required all-inclusive in the summer months).
Scene
Beachfront resort hotel with elegant lobby and sprawling grounds
Hotel St. George is a beachfront resort hotel geared toward vacationing couples and families. The property features a mix of modern decor with more traditional Cypriot style, starting with a beautiful little Orthodox chapel near the entrance, just at the top of the hotel's small parking lot. The lobby is an elegant, two-story affair with a fountain, and it's usually quiet save for the occasional handful of representatives from major tour operators waiting for guests. Huge crystal chandeliers suspended from the ceilings contribute to the lobby's contemporary vibe, as do black-and-off-white marble floors, large white columns, and regal purple sofas. The grounds are massive, with lots of grassy areas and a huge central pool area separated from the main beach area by a thick stretch of towering palm trees.
Location
Just off the main road between Coral Bay and Paphos, a short walk from restaurants
Hotel St. George is located just off the main road that runs along the coastline between Coral Bay and Paphos, overlooking the sea. There’s a branch of the popular discount supermarket LIDL a five-minute drive away and plenty of places to eat and drink within a few minutes' walk. Coral Bay is about a 15-minute drive north, while it takes around the same amount of time to get to Paphos by car. It's a six-minute drive north of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Tomb of the Kings. The Adonis Baths waterfalls are a 25-minute drive from the hotel and it takes about two hours to reach Mount Olympos. Nicosia is also a two-hour drive away. Paphos International Airport is just under a half-hour from the hotel by car. The larger Larnaca International Airport takes 90 minutes or so to reach.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms and suites with predominantly white color schemes; most with sea views
The rooms at Hotel St. George are elegant, and most have a white and off-white decor scheme with gray or gold accents and sleek streamlined furniture. All of the rooms measure 23 square meters (248 square feet), while the Family Suites and Luxury Suites measure 45 and 50 square meters (484 and 538 square feet), respectively. Features found across categories include furnished balconies with double-glazed doors, coffee- and tea-making facilities, safes, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs (20-inches in entry-level rooms; 26-inches in Superiors, and 32-inches in suites). Superior Rooms and suites add color therapy baths and iPod docks, while Luxury Suites add DVD players and espresso coffeemakers. Bathrooms feature toiletries, magnifying mirrors, and shower/tub combos. Luxury Suites add jetted tubs. Almost all of the 255 units have a sea view, and about a third of all units are interconnecting.
Features
Extensive facilities and activities, plus high-quality dining with all-inclusive options
This hotel offers an excellent array of facilities and activities, including safaris, horseback riding, beach volleyball, hiking, and biking. There's entertainment for guests of all ages including magic shoes, karaoke, and discos for both kids and adults. At the heart of the hotel is a huge outdoor swimming pool with plenty of lounge chairs, plus an adjacent kids' splash pool. Guests can also head straight down to the beach, where the water is shallow and good for swimming -- however, the lack of lounge chairs makes it less than ideal for sunbathing, unless guests don't mind using beach towels and sticking umbrellas directly in the sand.
Other facilities include tennis courts with a basketball hoop, a gift shop selling souvenirs, and a salon offering hair styling and nail services. There's also a colorful kids' club, Obelix, that offers arts and crafts and a variety of other activities. The Thalon Spa features a sauna, a steam bath, a fitness center with cardio and weight-training equipment, and a lovely indoor pool. Treatments include wraps, massages, facials, and special offerings for men. There's also a gorgeous hydrotherapy pool in the basement with mosaic columns and massage jets, but it costs extra to use.
Dining here includes four restaurants and four bars with high-quality food and clearly marked allergens. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style at Drops Restaurant (room service is also available for breakfast), while limited lunch options are served a la carte at the poolside Sunset Grill Restaurant (weather permitting). For dinner, Kionos Restaurant and Terrace has both a la carte and buffet options, while Kionos a la Carte specializes in fine dining. Drops also reopens some nights for dinner with themed buffet options. The hotel offers traditional Cypriot barbecues once a week. All-inclusive packages are available, but optional.
Bars include the stylish Arcadia Lounge in the lobby, which offers coffee, tea, pastries, and cocktails from morning until late, plus a second lobby bar, Avakas, that occasionally has live music in the evening. There's also a pool bar, but it's only open in the daytime and closes outside of the summer months. The second beach bar, Ammos Beach Kiosk, serves juices, cocktails, and typical Cypriot frappes (ice blended with instant coffee). There's not much in terms of business facilities, but Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel, as is on-site parking.
