The 208-room upper-middle-range Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel is an adult-only property with all-inclusive packages on a private (but rocky) beach. Facilities includes three outdoor swimming pools, multiple restaurants and bars, spa and hair salon, tennis, and an extensive indoor and outdoor green bowling facility. Though rooms are homey and have coffee- and tea-making facilities, flat-screen TVs, and balconies -- some with lovely ocean views -- decor and particularly bathrooms are dated. The hotel is conveniently located for exploring the island's sights, but old-fashioned furnishings throughout is certainly a downside. For a beachfront hotel with more modern style, consider the nearby Amphora Hotel & Suites.
Scene
Peaceful beachfront property with an adult-only policy for romancing couples
The Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel is an adult-only hotel with all-inclusive packages available. The hotel has dated furnishings throughout -- from the wicker couches with faded patterned cushions to the blue and brown granite reception area -- that are in need of an update, but there's ample indoor and outdoor seating and the rooms have a homey vibe. The outdoor pools are surrounded by spacious decks and plenty of sunbeds means guests don't have to do the typical morning rush for a spot. Most guests choose the property for its stunning sea views from various vantage points and pretty, albeit rocky, beach. For guests that aren't content just lounging, there are organized activities throughout the day and night, though most report less-than-stellar evening entertainment.
Location
On the beach, a half-hour walk from the old harbour
The Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel is located at the edge of lively Kato Paphos, on a road lined with hotels, restaurants, and shops. The property is easy to reach, but the road is not so busy that the resort suffers from traffic noise. There's a public bus stop near the front entrance, and the hotel has a large parking lot for guests with cars. The Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark is a six-minute drive from the resort, and both the Paphos Archaeological Park and Paphos Harbour are 11 minutes away by car. The Tombs of the Kings is within a 15-minute drive. It's a scenic, half-hour walk along the sea to the harbour and town center. Paphos Airport is about a 20-minute drive from the Athena Royal Beach, and Larnaca Airport is a 90-minute drive.
Rooms
Homey but dated rooms with balconies -- some sea-view
The 208 rooms are decently sized and homey, but the wooden furnishings and floral patterned fabrics are dated and in need of an update. Still, decor is certainly cheerful, featuring patterned accent walls, colorful artwork, and lots of natural light. Most notably, every room has furnished balconies -- with either mountain, sea, or partial-sea views. Comfy beds are king-size, though they can be separated into twin beds upon request. Executive One Bedroom Suites have separate living areas with wicker furniture -- including a dining table. Straightforward bathrooms have granite countertops, shower/tub combos, upscale toiletries, and hairdryers. All rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, in-room safes, and coffee- and tea-making facilities, while suites add espresso machines and fruit and wine upon arrival. Free Wi-Fi, bathrobes, slippers, and air-conditioning are standard.
Features
Three outdoor pools, a private beach, and sports facilities
The Constantinou Bros Athena Royal Beach Hotel features three outdoor swimming pools that are large enough for laps. Aqua aerobics classes are held throughout the day, but there's enough space to get away from the sounds of exercise. The deck is lined with cushioned loungers and umbrellas, and the poolside bar offers waiter service. There's an indoor pool open during the winter months, as well as both indoor and outdoor spa tubs. The hotel’s private beach has loungers and curtained beach cabanas, the latter of which requires a fee. The beach is rocky, but there is a pontoon dock that extends past the rocks for swimmers and snorkelers. There are plenty of activities offered for more active guests. Sports facilities include mini-golf, floodlit tennis courts, bike rentals, shuffleboard, billiards, and green bowling. There's also a ballroom dancing program during designated months. The Elixir Spa offers a full menu of treatments, and the fitness center includes cardio and weight-training equipment, as well as a steam room and two saunas -- one for nudists. There's a convenience store in the lobby for souvenirs and sundries. Meeting spaces are available and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
All-Inclusive / Food
Free quality breakfast and all-inclusive packages
The on-site restaurants include the outdoor Oasis, where a free, quality buffet breakfast that includes gluten-free items and sparkling wine is served. Guests can also purchase a half-board, full-board, and all-inclusive package. Pygmalion serves an international dinner menu with a choice between buffet and the table d’hote selection; there are special theme dinners here during the week. Guests who want to dine more privately can book a four-course table d’hote dinner at Aphrodite. Other restaurant and bar options include a lobby lounge and the Akakia Bar, which has trees strung with lights and gorgeous sea views. For those that go the all-inclusive route, snacks, ice cream, water, and select non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are included. A certain formality does reign here -- men are required to wear long pants in the restaurants at night.
