Cannot swim at hotel's beach -- must walk farther down shore
The three-and-a-half-pearl Azia Resort & Spa is a humble seaside property that attracts both families and couples. Rooms feature mountain or sea views from balconies. While the resort has a sandy area on the water, you can't swim here -- the beach is a five-minute walk away. Alternatively, there's an outdoor pool overlooking the sea with a kiddy pool and a swim-up bar. All-inclusive rates are available at the multiple themed buffets and a la carte restaurants, though restrictions can be a nuisance. A modern gym, spa, and kids' and teens' clubs keep everyone active, and there's live entertainment as well. Check out Louis Imperial Beach for something closer to town, though it's slightly more dated.
Scene
Mostly modern seaside resort with plenty to see and do for adults and kids
First impressions at this large seaside resort are good. The exteriors are well-landscaped and lush with palm trees and wide lawns. Inside, it's a mostly modern affair as well -- in the hotel's common areas at least -- which helps to make this a fairly popular pick for those seeking to bed down right on the Mediterranean. Plants are stylishly incorporated in the stunning lobby atrium, where greenery dangles over four floors. The large space is a fine welcome. It has a refined, upmarket appeal that's carried throughout many of the public areas. The resort is lively in high season, with a mix of families and couples scattered around the bars and pools. It can get crowded, and while areas are kept separate for adults only, some guests have reported this to be poorly enforced. Additionally, while the hotel sits on the sea, the closest swimmable beach is a five-minute walk away.
Location
On the Mediterranean Sea, a 10-minute drive from Paphos
The hotel is located in Chlorakas, a suburb of Pahpos that consists mostly of other resorts and hotels. Despite being on the sea, the closest swimmable beach is a five-minute walk away. Paphos Golf Driving Range is located across the street, and a cluster of restaurants and the Abyss Dive Center are also only five minutes away on foot. Buses frequently pass by the hotel, making trips into the city center in about 15 minutes; it's a 10-minute drive for those with their own cars. The Tombs of the Kings are on the same road as the hotel and can be reached in about five minutes by car. Shopping and attractions like the Kings Avenue Mall, Paphos Archaeological Park, House of Dionysos, Medieval Castle of Paphos, and the port are a 15- to 20-minute drive from the resort. Paphos International Airport is a 30-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Simple rooms with balconies and mountain or sea views
Rooms are generally pleasant. Balconies or terraces offer lovely sea or mountain views, but note that Mountain View Rooms face the road and can be noisy. Rooms are spacious. Private gardens are available in some upgraded rooms and suites, while select rooms have hot tubs on balconies. Couples often book the Adults Only Premium Rooms for more privacy. All rooms have air-conditioning, coffee- and tea-making facilities, free Wi-Fi, minibars, flat-screen TVs, safes, and basic bathrooms with shower/tub combos or whirlpool tubs in suites. Extras perks include bathrobes, slippers, and fresh fruit. Note that there's a deposit for the key to the minibar.
Features
Outdoor and indoor pools, spa treatments, kids’ activities, and international dining
This resort appeases both couples and families with kids, offering activities that range from archery to water polo. The lagoon pool is massive and has a swim-up bar and a kiddy pool, though some guests have noted that it gets crowded and lounge chairs can be taken up quickly in high season. This is perhaps due to the fact that, despite having a sandy area with lounge chairs near the sea, there is no proper beach at the hotel. The indoor pool, which is heated in the colder months, has a romantic vibe with an atrium ceiling over the deck, a rock waterfall, and a hot tub. Aroma stone therapy, Jasmine Flower Baths, and Elemis Fruit Active Glow facials can be booked in the spa that also has a hair salon. The gym offers a good selection of equipment and also has a yoga studio. There are a number of features to keep families with children busy. The kids’ club provides crafts and discos as well as babysitting for infants. The teen club offers a film class. With its own Greek-style chapel and meeting spaces, this hotel is also a popular venue for events and weddings. Freebies include outdoor parking and Wi-Fi throughout the property.
