Aloe Hotel

From the outside, this mid-range resort hotel has a contemporary appearance, with four stories of rooms spread across a couple of off-white wings. Entering into the dark lobby is a bit anti-climactic, and low ceilings, minimal lighting, and the prevalence of brown marble and old wooden furniture doesn't do much to brighten up the space. A gift shop sits to one side, and there's a brighter area at the far end of the lobby with a few vaguely Art Deco stained-glass windows and bright carpeting that make the area feel more alive. The hotel attracts lots of families and a fair amount of couples, most from the United Kingdom or Russia. Note that unlike many Paphos properties, this hotel is open throughout the year. However, major renovations are planned for 2018 through 2019, so it may shut its doors or have fewer available rooms during that period. 

Aloe Hotel is located on the main road that runs along the coast, across the street from the beach. The area is dominated by other hotels, though there are a few small shops and restaurants within a few minutes' walk. It's about a 10-minute drive north to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Tomb of the Kings, and seven minutes by car to Paphos Archaeological Park, home to ancient attractions such as the Paphos Mosaics. The Adonis Baths waterfalls are a 40-minute drive from the hotel and it takes about 90 minutes to reach Mount Olympos. Nicosia is a two-hour drive. Paphos International Airport is just under 20 minutes from the hotel. The larger Larnaca International Airport takes 90 minutes to reach.

Aloe Hotel offers 22-square-meter (237-square-foot) Standard Rooms with inland, pool, or side sea views along with 39-square-meter (420-square-foot) Family Rooms and One-Bedroom Suites measuring around 42 square meters (452 square feet). Rooms follow a similar decor pattern, with beige walls, blue wall-to-wall carpeted floors, and rust-colored accent walls. Bedside tables, headboards, and desks are made of light wood. During our 2017 visits, many of the rooms had tube-style TVs, though the hotel was planning renovations so that may change soon. Like the rooms, bathrooms are simple, with granite countertops and shower/tub combos. Basic toiletries are provided. All rooms have balconies, but note that some look out over a barren field that may be developed in years to come. Many others have views over what appeared to be the construction of a new mega resort during our visit, which may effectively eliminate sea views all together. 

The hub of activity at the Aloe Hotel takes place at the huge outdoor pool deck, which features a rectangular main pool that's great for laps and a large second lagoon pool, complete with a kids' area, a bridge, and fountain features. Regular themed entertainment takes place at the nearby pool bar and there's a small lawn area with lounge chairs and a playground, plus a splash pool out back. There's also a heated indoor pool and a small adjacent fitness center with limited hours, worn green carpet, and dated equipment. Although this hotel lacks a spa, there is a sauna and a whirlpool hot tub. Guests can use the facilities at the two sister properties: Almyra Hotel and Annabelle Hotel. Guests have the option of bed-and-breakfast, half- and full-board, and all-inclusive packages. Dining options include the main Cafe Paradiso, which offers buffet breakfast and both buffet and a la carte options at lunch, but the food isn't appetizing overall. Afternoon snacks are also served here (free for all-inclusive guests). Dinner is served at the main Mediterraneao Restaurant, with a regular rotation of themed buffet nights plus a few set menus. Along with the pool bar, the hotel offers a lobby cocktail bar with karaoke and dancing.Other features include free hotel-wide Wi-Fi, a laundry room, and a huge parking lot with plenty of spaces. There's also a conference room for up to 220 guests. There was a game room, but it was closed during our visit. Note that as of late 2017, renovations were being planned, which may result in additional or revamped facilities in years to come.
