There are 10 rooms total -- including an elegant coach house -- which are modern and offer thoughtful touches such as chilled milk in mini-fridges and welcome notes on the beds. The restaurant is of high quality and service is top-notch, though some guests note that the classic rooms are small. The Applegarth Villa and Restaurant’s rooms are reportedly more spacious.

The hotel was built in 1854 as a private two-story country estate and features a stone exterior, pitched roof, white-trimmed cathedral windows, and gardens with patio furniture. The owners, Caroline and Jonathan Kaye, personally welcome guests upon their arrival, giving the hotel an intimate feel. The hotel is a little bit modern and a little bit bed and breakfast, with jars of marmalade for sale at the hutch, which serves as the front desk. The sitting area offers contemporary designs: bookshelf wallpaper, a flat-screen TV, striped booths, and a modern fireplace. Display wall cases and glass coffee tables showcase jewelry and crafts for sale. Overall, the atmosphere is peaceful, polished, and relaxed.

On the east side of Lake Windermere is where guests will find the Cedar Manor Hotel. The location is a six-minute car ride to Lake District National Park. Windermere Lake Cruises is a seven-minute drive. The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, a family-friendly exhibit, is four minutes by car. The Old Laundry Theatre is on the same block as the hotel. The Windermere TransPennine Express stop is nine minutes on foot. Less than 10 minutes from the hotel are shops, markets, restaurants, and entertainment. The Windermere Golf Club is an eight-minute drive away. SailTime Windermere and Windermere Canoe and Kayak are seven minutes by car.
