The Niriis is a budget hotel located in the Agli Apostoli area, about a 10-minute drive from Chania and within walking distance of three beaches, mini-markets, restaurants, hotel bars, and bus connections. Many of the 25 rooms are styled like small apartments, with mini-fridges, cooking utensils, stovetop burners, sinks, and kitchen tables, but there are also dormitories. Popular with backpackers and young couples, Niriis is an excellent option for budget-conscious travelers who want somewhere cheap and clean to sleep between heading out for the beach or heading home from a night out. It might not be the best choice for guests looking for a quiet retreat.
Scene
Backpackers and budget-conscious travelers seeking a crash pad close to the beach and the town
Popular with backpackers and travelers on a budget, this clean, friendly hostel-style hotel has dormitory accommodations along with individual apartment-style rooms with cooking facilities. Although Niriis does not have its own pool, the owner has arranged for guests to use the pool at a neighboring property. A long, sandy beach, with plenty of sunbeds and snack bars, is within a five-minute walk. Close to Chania and its nightlife, the Niriis attracts its share of travelers eager to flop on the beach during the day and party all night.
Location
Close to a sandy beach in the small town of Agii Apostli, a 10-minute minutes drive from Chania
A 10-minute drive from the cafes, restaurants, museums, and other attractions of historic Chania, the Niriis Hotell is within easy reach of spectacular trekking opportunities in the Samaria Gorge. Overlooking a long sandy beach, the hotel is also a good base for visiting other local attractions, including the tropical beach of Elafonissi, typical villages of the White Mountains, and the fabled Minoan remains of Knossos.
Rooms
Cheap dormitory accommodation and self-catering apartments with balconies.
Housed on two floors, the Niriis' 25 apartments and two dormitories were renovated in 2002. With views of the quiet street or a small garden, rooms have furnished balconies and fully equipped kitchenettes with electric burners, mini-fridges, and cooking utensils. Wi-Fi is free, but the signal is strongest on the first floor. There are also two sparsely furnished dormitories, one with eight bunks and the other with six bunks. The dormitory beds are popular and need to be booked well in advance.
Features
Information about local sights, free Wi-Fi, and a small book exchange lounge
Apart from a small book exchange lounge, the free Wi-Fi, and the kitchenettes, the features at the Niriis are minimal. Although the hotel does not have its own pool, the owner has arranged for guests to use the swimming pool at a neighboring hotel. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the nearby seafront.
