A basic, family-run apartment hotel
built around a pool, the simple Kastro Beach Apartments is located an easy walk from Malia's
main strip, close to the area's sandy beaches. Central location and affordable prices make the Kastro Beach Apartments a popular option with young couples looking for a relaxing, budget-friendly base close to Malia's bustling nightlife scene. Later in the season, the apartments are popular with older couples and families with older children who especially appreciate the kitchenettes in all rooms, and proximity to the beach and area sightseeing.
Scene
Basic and breezy apart-hotel with a popular pool and a scene that runs the gamut from party animals to low-key families
This family-run apart-hotel is a popular, budget-friendly base during the high season for party animals who want to head out
clubbing in Malia at night and laze by the pool all day. In the off-season, the
hotel is popular with older couples and families who spend their days at the
beach, around the small pool, or sightseeing nearby. The hotel itself is basic but clean and welcoming -- a series of apartments situated around a central courtyard and pool, with plenty of plants and places to lounge outdoors. The bar/cafe is dated in style, but breezy and lively when games are shown on the flat-screen TVs.
Location
On a small side street near sandy beaches, and a short walk from Malia's lively main strip
Within easy reach of lively party mecca Malia and a 15-minute drive from Heraklion’s
international airport, the Kastro Beach Apartments is located on a quiet street close to the area's sandy beaches. The surrounding area is filled with cafes and restaurants, and other tourist-catering facilities. The Minoan ruins at Knossos are a quick drive away, and the scenic island of Spinalonga is a quick drive and boat ride away, as well.
Rooms
Apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes and small patios, ranging in size and quality
The apartment-style rooms at the Kastro Beach Apartments are clean and basic, though many could use updating, as the boxy, minimalist style feels dated. All do have small terraces with either pool, countryside, or parking lot views, and even the smallest studios have small, fully outfitted kitchenettes, complete with two-ring stoves, cooking utensils, and fridges, although guests complain about some faulty electrical wiring at times. The bathrooms are similarly dated in style, with brown and cream tile, and walk-in showers. Rooms do not have televisions and air-conditioning comes at a fee. Rooms facing the pool and bar can get noise from those areas in the high season. Some guests complain of rooms being dingy, and that plumbing doesn't always work properly.
Features
Pool with bar, bar/cafe serving basic meals, small internet and video games area, internet corner, and free Wi-Fi
The hotel has an average-sized pool flanked by sun-loungers, as well as a small pool bar and a bar/cafe that serves drinks, basic
meals, and snacks. There is an internet corner where guests can play video
games, and movies and sports games are often screened on the large, flat-screen TVs. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi.
