Scene
Peaceful, basic resort
Surrounded by pretty gardens, The Hersonissos Village Hotel is set on a hill overlooking Hersonissos Bay. The hotel has an airy, simple feel from the sun-filled lobby with white couches and stone floors to the peaceful stone walkways passing through blooming gardens. The atmosphere is family-friendly (as long as kids are old enough to tackle the steep hill on the way to the beach), but this quiet resort also attracts couples looking for an escape.
Location
On a hill with panoramic views near the lively resort of Hersonissos
A 20-minute walk from Hersonissos’ beaches, cafes, restaurants, and attractions Hersonissos Village Hotel is also within easy reach of several water parks. It's about a 15-minute drive to the lively party mecca Malia. The fabled Minoan remains of Knossos are about a half-hour away by car. The hotel is about an hour's drive from the laid-back beach resort town of Elounda, where boats depart to Spinalonga, the island featured in Victoria Hislop's bestselling novel.
Rooms
Clean, simple, small rooms with balconies
On a steep slope overlooking Hersonissos' pretty Bay, Hersonissos hotel’s 149 rooms and 11 maisonettes have satellite TV, mini-fridges, and air-conditioning, while safes are available for an extra fee. Rooms are basic but functional, with little decor to speak of and thin mattresses. Larger maisonettes are laid out on two levels and all have sea views. Connected by an interior stairway, these are the best bet for families, although low walls around the stairwell on the upper floor could be problematic. All rooms have balconies or terraces, some with panoramic pool and sea views. Rooms in the rear look out on the surrounding countryside.
Features
