A hit among budget-minded party animals and families seeking a basic place, Hersonissos has a central location. However, the rates (all-inclusive is available) are often among some of the lowest in the area.
Scene
Clubbers, couples, and budget-conscious families looking for a centrally located hotel make up the guests at this lively hotel.
At the heart of Hersonissos’ lively town and close to the resort’s clean seas and sandy beaches, Hersonissos hotel is popular with a party-loving crowd who come to chill by the pool or sip drinks at the beach bar during the day, then party along the resort town's bar-and-club-lined main strip at night. Cool and dim, with large comfortable sofas, the somewhat dated reception area, with its shops selling souvenirs, is another popular area when temperatures soar outside. Up a few steps, the equally dim restaurant serves a fairly bland buffet of Greek and international food to all-inclusive guests.
Location
At the heart of lively Hersonissos and close to several sandy beaches
Along a dusty narrow road close to this lively resort town’s shops, bars, clubs and restaurants, Hersonissos is a short stroll from several sandy beaches. With some large water parks nearby, the hotel is also a 35-minute drive from Spinalonga, the eponymous island featured in Victoria Hislops bestselling novel, which can be reached by boat from the laid-back beach resort of Elounda. Other attractions within 30 to 35 minutes by car include lively Mecca Malia and the fabled Minoan remains of Knossos.
Rooms
Functional, but urgently in need of refurbishment
Basic, but functional, standard and family rooms in the main building of Hersonissos hotel are grouped around the grassy, pleasant pool area. They all have bathrooms with tubs or showers, satellite TVs, fridges, air-conditioning, and balconies or terraces. Rooms in the hotel’s annex are cramped, dingy, dark. and uncomfortable. Beds, in general, are rock hard and extra cots and bedding for younger family members or extra guests are generally narrow and uncomfortable as well. For the best views, chose one of the rooms near the pool. Guests seeking peace and quiet should avoid the rooms facing out over the street.
Features
Pleasant pool area, as well as a shop selling souvenirs, but the highlight is the central location
A popular hangout during the daytime, Hersonissos Hotel’s large pool, surrounded by a grassy lawn, has plenty of sunbeds. There is a pool bar serving drinks and snacks, and a rather dingy restaurant, across from the spacious lobby area, serving simple Greek and international cuisine to all-inclusive guests. Other facilities include a well-stocked souvenir shop and an internet corner with several computers for guests who need to get online. There is also a dusty games room with bridge, billiard tables, and table tennis facilities in the main building.
