This upper-middle-range 49-room seaside resort attracts families and couples with its relaxing atmosphere, gorgeous views, and proximity to popular tourist sites in Chania. Large, modern rooms with separate living areas and kitchenettes distinguish Corinna Mare from the typical beach resort. Two pools and a well-reviewed restaurant are highlights, particularly the infinity-edge pool which appears to merge with the ocean. The hotel's rocky beach with rough waters is not ideal for all swimmers, but a two-minute walk brings guests to a more popular beach with calmer seas. Those looking for a resort with easier access to a sandy beach might prefer the nearby Ammos Hotel -- it has a brighter, more whimsical design but it's not as peaceful as Corinna Mare.
Scene
Quiet, simple spaces are designed for comfort and relaxation
Corinna Mare Studios & Suites provides couples and families with a quiet, relaxing base from which to explore nearby sites or spend a day relaxing at the hotel. Interior spaces have a simple, pleasant design utilizing lots of wood, neutral tones, and plant accents. The lobby is primarily white and is set with several groupings of comfortable grayish-blue sofas and chairs, plus several small gray-potted plants. A separate lounge off the lobby is stocked with magazines, books, DVDs, and a television. The simple black-and-white restaurant has fresh flowers and columns wrapped in wallpaper with a book-shelf-and-plant motif. The path toward the pools and ocean is brimming with potted plants and flowers, plus a few benches for those not taking advantage of the loungers. The rocky coastline isn't ideal for swimming, but the widespread ocean views are excellent.
Location
Seafront setting close to beaches and popular tourist sites
Corinna Mare is on the eastern side of Agia Marina, set on a rocky peninsula jutting into the ocean. Agia Marina offers tourists long strips of sandy beaches with easy access to popular tourist sites such as Chania. It is a two-minute walk to the Kalamaki beach for those looking for a strip of sand and calmer waters for swimming. The road can be busy and is lined with plenty of restaurants and shopping. By the same token, parking is difficult; the hotel only has a few spots for guests. The center of Chania and its beautiful, historic harbor area is a 15-minute drive away. In the opposite direction, Platanias village -- known for family entertainment and a nighttime club scene -- is 12 minutes away by car. A bus stops just in front of the hotel for easy access to nearby sites. Chania International Airport is about a 30-minute drive away.
Rooms
Large, appealing suites with kitchenettes and balconies
Larger than a typical hotel room, Corinna Mare's studios and suites offer relaxing bedrooms, separate living spaces, and kitchenettes (or full kitchens in some rooms). All rooms were updated in 2014 to give them modern wood and tile floors, wooden furniture, and either blue, teal, or gray accents to blend with the ocean setting. King-size beds dominate the bedrooms, while simple living spaces have comfortable pullout sofas, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, and wooden dining tables with chairs that seat either two or four. Basic kitchenettes have two-burner stoves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, toasters, cookware, and dishes. They're sufficient but not suitable for preparing full family meals. Some bathrooms are more modern than others, but all have walk-in showers, hairdryers, and hotel-brand toiletries. All rooms have furnished balconies with views over either the garden or the pools and ocean beyond. Also standard are safes and free Wi-Fi. Studios and suites range from 270 square feet (25 square meters) to 540 square feet (50 square meters). Up to six guests can be accommodate in the two-story suites, some of which have two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Features
Well-designed infinity pool, a quality restaurant, and ocean pier
Corinna Mare offers guests a relaxed atmosphere with a handful of above average amenities. Two pools, the bar, beach access, and the restaurant are all in the same area of the hotel; despite being so close together, it's a beautiful spot with a peaceful atmosphere. The two decent-sized pools are next to each other, one with an infinity edge that seems to merge with the sea. The beach itself is a rocky outcropping where the sea can be rough. A pier out over the water provides a calmer spot to enjoy the ocean with free loungers and umbrellas for guests. The hotel also has a playground for younger kids and one of the pools has a kiddy section. A massage room and tiny gym are available, as well as a sauna, though the latter requires a fee.The restaurant and bar overlook the pool and ocean, giving it an undeniable charm. The restaurant design is informal but pleasant, and the food is well-reviewed. Simple, Mediterranean dishes are made from local ingredients and include the catch of the day. Some tables are set on the edge of the pool which may be uncomfortable for both swimmers and diners. Wi-Fi is free throughout and there are two computers in the lobby for guest use.
