The exterior has been renovated to maintain the charm and style of its history and the lobby has a comfortable, rustic style. Unfortunately, the TV lounge in the center of the lobby is the only common space available. Guest rooms are basic with kitchenettes and balconies, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The highlight of a stay at Casa Veneta is the friendly and knowledgeable owners who go out of their way to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. For the price and location this hotel can’t be beat, but for those looking for warmer rooms and extra facilities, it's worth considering the Porto Veneziano Hotel.
Scene
Charming building with a friendly atmosphere
Casa Veneta is a simple, small hotel frequented by couples who find the owners extremely friendly and helpful. The building exterior has been renovated, and the owners maintained the Old-Venetian charm with wrought-iron balconies, decorative window shutters, and antique door handles. The lobby continues to remind guests of the building’s history. Wrought-iron and wood accents give it a warm, rustic feel, while black-and-white photographs of the old harbor dress up the bright-white walls. There are almost no on-site amenities, but the owner's excellent recommendations for the best spots in town and friendly disposition help guests to feel at home and enjoy their stay.
Location
In the historic harbor area of Chania, with plenty to see and do nearby
Casa Veneta is in the middle of the Old Venetian Harbor of Chania. The street is for pedestrians only and free public parking is at the end of the road, a two-minute walk from the hotel. It is a one-minute walk to the harbor itself, and any part of the district can be reached within 15 minutes on foot. There are many good restaurants, museums, and shops nearby; it is a charming area to explore. Nea Chora Beach, which is popular with people staying in Chania and can get quite crowded, is a 12-minute walk away. A bus station with routes all over the island is nearby, about a 11-minute walk from the hotel. Chania International Airport is a 22-minute drive.
Rooms
Clean, bland rooms with kitchenettes and free Wi-Fi
The nine rooms are comfortable and clean, but have little decor. The white-tile floors and mostly bare white walls throughout are bland, though there are some charming period touches such as double wood doors opening onto the balconies, metal lanterns, and (electric) wall candles for lighting. Studios have one room with either a double bed or two twins, and a sofa bed. The small kitchenette has a mini-fridge, sink, and two electric burners. Bathrooms are basic with small stall showers, pedestal sinks, small shelves, and hand soaps. They are old and show some wear, however. Apartments have a similar design, but a bit more room to spread out. The first floor has the kitchenette and a small eating area, plus the bathroom with a shower. The second floor is a living area with two sofa beds and a balcony. The third floor has beds, a sitting area, and another balcony. Balconies are narrow and most overlook the charming city streets with the harbor at the end. All rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi with a good signal.
Features
A TV lounge in the lobby; room service is available but there's no on-site restaurant
Casa Veneta is a small, old building without much room for extra facilities. The TV lounge consists of a small flat-screen TV and an old-fashioned living room setting in the middle of the lobby. There isn’t a restaurant or bar on-site, though room service can be arranged. Note that the building is four stories but lacks an elevator. Wi-Fi is free and reliable throughout the property.
