Bottom Line

The Landmark Resort of Cozumel is an upscale beachfront property with 63 two- and three-bedroom condo-style units. It's more residential than resort here, due to the apartment-like units with full kitchens and washer/dryers, and an overall lack of on-site features. A big pool is the heart of the resort and offers up a sundeck with cabanas, loungers, and a hot tub. Room service is available, and guests can grab meals at the beach club across the street. The beach club also has a VIP area, private pier, and water activities like snorkeling. A small gym, free Wi-Fi, 24-hour security and reception, and secured parking round out amenities. For an all-inclusive experience, check out the family-friendly Fiesta Americana Cozumel All-Inclusive about a six-minute walk down the road.

Scene

Upscale residence-style property with classic design and well-landscaped grounds

The Landmark Resort of Cozumel is less of a resort and more like a serviced upscale condominium. This six-story hotel has a strong presence from the get-go, thanks to the beautiful crown molding, fountains, and palms out front. An opulent Roman-Greco vibe starts with columns at the entrance and continues in the grand lobby, which is full of polished marble and granite, ornate columns, and a cutout ceiling fresco. The two- and three-bedroom condo units draw a lot of families, while the exclusive and residential feel is a plus for couples seeking a quiet and sophisticated vacation. Complaints are few and far between here, though be aware that guests will have to walk across the street to reach the only casual eatery on-site, or go outside the resort. For those that don't love the serviced condo-style setup or the lack of features such as a spa, consider Cozumel Palace

Location

Somewhat secluded beachfront location within a 20-minute drive of downtown

The Landmark Resort of Cozumel has an oceanfront location off of Dzul Ha Reef. It's about a 20-minute drive north to downtown San Miguel de Cozumel, where diverse dining and shopping options abound. There's not much in the immediate area of the hotel outside of other hotels. Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park is a five-minute drive from the property, and Cozumel's San Gervasio Mayan ruins are around a 30-minute drive away. Cozumel International Airport is about a 25-minute drive.

Rooms

Two- and three-bedroom condo-style units with purified water, washer/dryers, huge balconies, and full kitchens

Condo-style units have a simple, contemporary look consisting of polished marble tile floors, Caribbean-style wicker and wood furniture, pops of beachy blue or coral in bedding and seating, and lots of natural light. Each unit has either two or three bedrooms, a living room, full kitchen, and huge balcony that average around 600 square feet. Kitchens sport granite countertops, KitchenAid appliances (microwaves, dishwashers, and electric stoves and ovens), dual stainless steel sinks, cookware, and dishes. Shopping and stocking services are available through the hotel. Living room areas have ample seating areas, though the sofas do not convert into beds. Expect big flat-screen TVs with cable channels in all rooms, dining tables, and AC. Huge bathrooms feature spacious vanity/dressing areas, lots of marble, walk-in showers, and separate bathtubs. Hairdryers are only in the master bathrooms. Washer/dryers add convenience and a water purification system means guests can drink straight from the tap. Terraces are outfitted with padded loungers, tables and chairs, and ocean views. Note that the Thursday through Sunday night music at the Money Bar often finds its way to rooms (though it's done before midnight). Decor changes depending on the unit. Daily maid service is included.

Features

Beautiful pool with hot tub, beach club with activities, and a small gym

As this is a residence-style property and not a true resort, don'y expect too many resort features. A beautiful pool functions as the social centerpiece of the hotel. This space has a coral tile deck with modern loungers, a hot tub, cabana beds, and a smattering of umbrellas. There's also plenty of space to relax near a palm tree. However, since there is no restaurant or bar within the hotel and its grounds, there's no drink service at the pool. For sun with a side of salsa or cocktails, visitors will have to go across the street to the Money Bar Beach Club. There, guests will find a restaurant, bar, beautiful beach (with a VIP area), and water-sports center for activities and excursions such as snorkeling -- Landmark guests get a discount off everything. Fishing trips and boat pick up are available from the private pier. The hotel also has a well-equipped gym with mostly cardio machines and a few free weights. Unfortunately, there is no spa here. Meeting space is available and a business center offers a computer and printer. Guests can expect 24-hour security and reception, free Wi-Fi, and free secured parking.
