The mid-range Grand Park Royal Cozumel is for travelers who are more interested in a beachfront location than a luxurious room. The 342 rooms are simply furnished and past guests have complained about maintenance issues, but the rooms do manage to cover all the main amenities from balconies to free minibars. The beach and seaside infinity pools have cruise ship views (the port is just a 10-minute walk away), and they’re still the most well-liked features by guests. It’s a relaxing atmosphere with all-inclusive features that cover multiple dining options, but entrance to the gym costs extra and free Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby. If those two amenities are of major importance, consider El Cozumeleno Beach Resort where such amenities (and non-motorized water sports) are free.
Scene
All-inclusive resort with an outdoor emphasis, time-share pitches, and a clientele of couples and families
Travelers that can look past the busy check-in counters and time-share pitches in the lobby will find a laid-back all-inclusive resort at Grand Park Royal Cozumel. On the whole, the design is fairly simple and includes a blend of green grounds filled with trees and stone, and buildings with open-air areas and simple furniture. For instance, the lobby is a large open-air space with simple woven furniture complemented by wooden or bamboo accents and set against a calming tan and cream background. The seaside infinity pools are probably the most attractive aspect of the resort as they’re built right next to the rocky (short) cliffside that leads straight into the water. Guests are mostly couples, but with lots of family-friendly activities, families stay here, too.
Location
Located on a small beach about a 10-minute walk from cruise ship terminals and chain restaurants
Grand Park Royal Cozumel has a beachfront location in Cozumel, just a 10-minute walk from the cruise ship terminal, so expect ocean views marred by large ships. The neighborhood is filled with a variety of shops, grocery stores, restaurants, and bars. Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and the Hard Rock Cafe are both within a 10-minute walk. Though most guests remain on the resort, it’s easily within driving distance of popular attractions like San Gervasio, a set of Mayan ruins (15-minute drive away) and Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park (11-minute drive). San Miguel’s city center and Cozumel International Airport are both 15-minute drives away.
Rooms
Simple and clean rooms with furnished balconies and minibars, though no Wi-Fi
Room decor is sparse and plain at Grand Park Royal Cozumel. The rooms are a blend of glossy white floors and aging blond veneer furniture. The only bit of color or spice to the rooms are blue accents on the beds or bench padding. The best features are the furnished balconies or patios, especially those with ocean views. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and minibars (included in the all-inclusive rate). Expect fees for use of the safes. Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby, unfortunately. The brown marble of the bathrooms would be nice if it didn’t look 10 years old. All bathrooms include showers, spacious counters, toiletries, and hairdryers. There have been complaints about maintenance issues in rooms (and in public spaces).
Features
Small beach and oceanside infinity pools are main highlights, complemented by all-inclusive dining options and a kids' club
Grand Park Royal Cozumel offers a lot of amenities for a mid-range hotel. The small beach is a bit rocky, but features loungers and thatched umbrellas, and beachfront hotels in Cozumel aren't super common. The pools are noteworthy, there's one main pool with a swim-up bar and two seaside infinity pools and hot tubs on a wooden deck next to the ocean. Activities are plentiful during the day and include volleyball, free snorkeling, or booking a trip at the hotel’s dive center. At night, there’s free entertainment in the theater. There’s also a gym which costs a fee to use per-day and a spa with massages and a hot tub. The hotel is an all-inclusive resort that covers five bars, a buffet restaurant, and other restaurants that serve Mexican, Italian, and seafood. The a-la-carte restaurants require reservations during a specific time of day which can be a drawback. Families can enjoy perks like a kids’ club, children’s pool with waterslide, and a mini-theater. Wi-Fi is only free in the lobby.
