It manages, however, to break the mold with a mixture of bold design touches and efforts to cater to vacationing families. Its location isn't convenient for a Dublin city break, but it offers easy access to the airport, and a bus that stops right outside the hotel connects to the city center in about 30 minutes. Travelers might want to consider the similarly priced Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa, also on the northwest fringes of Dublin.

Opened in 2007, it bears all the hallmarks of a recent build, with contemporary curving frontage, large windows, and a mixture of wood and stone construct. This spirit of pushing a little beyond the norm continues inside, with a bordering-on-adventurous design scheme and a quirky yet inviting seating area in the lobby, with bright velvet banquettes and a bog oak sculpture centerpiece. Although fronted by a bland slab of car park, the property backs on to pleasantly arranged grounds with manicured lawns and plenty of lush vegetation. Because of its location near three corporate parks, the clientele is mainly business travelers during the week, but during weekends and holidays, the focus shifts more to tourist travelers.
