Sunrise Condos of Tamarindo is a three-pearl condo complex located in downtown Tamarindo. While not upscale, the complex’s 52 two-, three-, and four-bedroom units are inviting and well-equipped, all offering full kitchens, separate living areas, multiple bathrooms, as well as washers and dryers. Like many condo complexes, in-room features are the selling point here, with few on-site amenities aside from a nice outdoor pool and kids' pool. Although there’s not much to do on the property, its central location in Tamarindo puts guests within easy walking distance of dining, nightlife, and the beach. Travelers seeking more on-site features might want to compare rates and amenities with Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas, which offers a restaurant, a spa, and free yoga classes -- but it's a 20-minute walk to downtown Tamarindo.
Scene
Mid-range condo complex with practical units and a great location
Guests arriving at Sunrise Condos of Tamarindo pick up their keys in a small rental office located in a strip mall just in front of the complex. A gated entrance leads back to the property, comprised of several four-story buildings surrounding an open courtyard and pool area. Arched doorways and Greco Roman-style pillars add some character to its hallways and facade, but the property’s ho-hum personality detracts from the intended effect of these flourishes.Large units with a minimum of two bedrooms are particularly attractive to families and groups of friends. The units aren’t especially dated, but they’re hardly modern, making them a better fit for guests who prioritize functionality over style. The pool is nice enough, and the pathways running between the buildings are well-landscaped, but this unfussy property doesn’t really offer anything out of the ordinary aside from its convenient location.
Location
Prime location on Tamarindo’s main drag
This condo complex is located in the heart of Tamarindo, with dozens of shops, restaurants, and bars crowded along Calle Central in front of the property. The condo is set back a bit from the street, situated slightly behind a small strip mall with a few clothing shops and vacation rental offices.Tamarindo Beach is located less than a two-minute walk away, just across the street. It’s a perfect location for guests interested in dining, shopping, nightlife, and surfing. Tamarindo can be a hard-partying little town, and as some guests have noted, noise from the street sometimes carries up into the condo units at night. Quieter Langosta Beach is a 20-minute walk away, or it’s a 30-minute drive to Playa Grande, which is known as a notable sea turtle nesting site. Liberia’s airport is a little over an hour’s drive away.
Rooms
Attractive two-, three- and four-bedroom units feature full kitchens and covered terraces
Like most condo complexes, the units at Sunrise Condos of Tamarindo are individually owned, and thus no two units are the same. All are well maintained with decor that lacks the polished finish of a hotel room, but instead resembles a tidy family home. Some bedrooms feature floral prints and four-poster beds, some are more understated and neutral, while others have bold wall colors and busy printed duvets. Most have older, wooden furniture, and all include one or more TVs, as well as DVD players and washers and dryers. Free Wi-Fi is also available in each unit, though many guests report that the connection is spotty. All units have large living areas comprised of a kitchen, a dining area, and a sitting area with a sofa bed. Most kitchens have wood cabinets and granite countertops, as well as high-top chairs set along the counter. Amenities vary from unit to unit, but full-size fridges, ovens with stovetops, microwaves, and dishwashers are standard. All units have furnished terraces with views of the pool or ocean. The condos are set across the street from the beach, which means ocean views are partially obscured by other buildings. Bathrooms have step-down showers enclosed by partial walls, as well as cabinets and round sinks. Pump bottles of hand soap are provided. Two- and three-bedroom units have two bathrooms, while the four-bedroom unit has three bathrooms.
Features
Big outdoor pool and free self-parking -- but few other extras
Features at this condo complex are limited, with on-site dining being notably absent. But the complex does have a large, kidney shaped pool surrounded by a wide deck. A low barrier separates a shallower kids’ pool from the main pool. The focal point is a commanding rock and waterfall feature set at one end. The deck is lined with gray lounge chairs, which many guests report get snatched up quickly when the complex is at full capacity. The open deck is great for sun-worshippers, but offers little shade. The complex has a gated entrance with 24/7 security and free self-parking. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, but the connection is often inconsistent.
