Bottom Line

The small Microtel Inn & Suites Aransas Pass is a no-frills facility that enjoys a good location between the Texas mainland and outlying Port Aransas. Rooms are bland and feature oddly placed tube TVs. The pool is nice but basic, and there’s no fitness center, but guests do get a free breakfast and in-room Wi-Fi. Overall, it's a solid choice for the budget-conscious looking for a clean, basic hotel, and not necessarily much in the way of amenities.

Scene

A budget hotel with no-frills facilities

The hotel feels quaint from the outside, with two-story architecture that appears like a modern take on a small, rural inn. The lobby is basic but modern with a flat-screen TV and small lounge area, in addition to two computers for guests’ use. The small breakfast area adjoins the lobby lounge area, but leaves much to be desired for guests expecting a more formal dining setting. There’s no fitness center or guest laundry, and the pool (with small Jacuzzi) is a somewhat bare-bones facility bordered by the parking lot and a gas station. Lounge seating here is limited, but there’s at least a wooden awning for shade from the Texas sun.Overall the name of the game here is basic-yet-comfortable.

Location

In Aransas Pass, between the mainland and outlying Port Aransas beaches

The Microtel Inn & Suites Aransas Pass is well located just off the main road leading to Port Aransas. There’s a full-service chain grocery store (HEB) just two blocks away. The cultural attractions and beaches of Rockport lie just 10 miles away.Aransas Pass lies about 20 miles north of downtown Corpus Christi and makes a decent alternative to staying in the city. It sprang up as a pit stop and services area between the mainland and outlying Port Aransas, reached by road and a car ferry. It has a laid-back atmosphere typical of South Texas coastal towns.- 36-minute-drive to Corpus Christi International Airport

Rooms

Clean, but somewhat no-frills, with oddly placed tube TVs

Room layouts are efficient, though somewhat bare-bones. Furniture is made of light-colored wood, including the built-into-the-wall desk that's paired with a non-ergonomic chair (not ideal for business travelers). Bathrooms are spacious, with granite countertops and basic linoleum flooring. There’s a nice little sitting area fronting the window, though views are far from inspiring -- rooms face the parking lot or a neighboring gas stationThe tube TVs are placed atop tall cabinets, meaning you’ll find yourself looking upward at them in a hospital-room-style fashion. The walls in this property are thin, and thus noise from the outside and room-to-room can often be heard. And beds are no-frills -- if you’re looking for a luxurious, firm bed to sleep in, it's best to look elsewhere.- Somewhat squishy beds

  • Old tube TVs
  • Pleasant sitting area next to bedroom windows
  • Free in-room Wi-FI
  • In-room coffee maker with free coffee
  • Mini-fridge and microwave only in higher-priced rooms and suites
  • Upgrading to a suite gets you more space and a wet bar with sink and cabinetry, though the TV is even more oddly placed between the bedroom and living room
