The small Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Rockport/Bay View almost feels like a boutique hotel thanks to modern, tasteful decor and comfortable rooms. The "Bay View" add-on to the name isn’t entirely true, as only the rooms on the third floor have any sort of view of the nearby ocean -- and it’s barely there, off in the distance behind a neighboring motel. The view (or lack thereof) aside, it’s conveniently within walking distance to local beaches and attractions, and makes a fine base for exploring the area.

Although most Holiday Inn Express properties can start to look the same after awhile, the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Rockport/Bay View stands out for its tasteful, updated decor -- some might say it's even "boutique-y" feeling in places.The lobby and public areas are clean, modern, and bright featuring ocean-inspired accents such as driftwood and coral. The earth tones contrast nicely with shades of sage and turquoise. The decorative theme extends to the rooms, which are efficiently laid out, modern and comfortable.The Holiday Inn Express is a good value and conveniently located for those wanting to be within walking distance to the beach and area attractions. You’ll find all the usual amenities found in most other Holiday Inn Express properties, including a fitness center and pool, though both are definitely on the small side. A complete breakfast is served buffet-style every morning -- but the fruits, juices, cereal, and breads make a better bet than the omelets, which resemble something you’d consume in coach class at 30,000 feet. There’s also coffee 'round-the-clock.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Rockport/Bay View is well located off a main road fronting Aransas Bay. There’s a small neighborhood behind the property and a motel next door. Although there’s no beach here, it’s a quick walk to Rockport Beach Park. Cultural attractions are also within walking distance.Rockport lies about 32 miles north of downtown Corpus Christi and makes a nice alternative to staying in the city. It has a laid-back atmosphere but enough in the way of shopping and comforts to be convenient. There are large chain grocery stores and even a Walmart in town for basic shopping needs. The town itself sprawls along the shoreline lining Aransas Bay.- 45-minute-drive to Corpus Christi International Airport

Room layouts are efficient, as you’d expect to find in a Holiday Inn Express, with basic furnishings plus a little dining table for two. Decor is a small step above standard. The furniture, including the desk, headboard, coffee table, end tables, and TV cabinet, is of dark wood. And there's a playful use of color -- earth tones contrast nicely with bright turquoise, avocado green, and sage tones. The bathrooms are painted in a lively shade of turquoise, with granite countertops, and dark hardwood cabinets beneath the sink.There’s not much in the way of views from the rooms, as the property faces a parking lot. Some rooms on the third floor (odd-numbered) have a barely discernible view of the bay beyond the next-door motel. And the walls in this property are somewhat thin, thus noise from the outside can sometimes be heard.- Comfortable beds with various pillow-firmness options
