Bottom Line

One of the Hampton Inn & Suites Outer Banks biggest selling points is that it has direct access to a beautiful, sandy beach area. The chain hotel has 123 rooms, all with furnished balconies or patios; some also have ocean views. There’s an outdoor pool with a separate children’s pool as well as a small lazy river and an indoor pool and hot tub. Breakfast is included, but the small room where it is served can get crowded. There aren't any lounge chairs or umbrellas on the beach, so guests may want to bring their own.

Scene

Outdoor pools and a beautiful sandy beach with grassy dunes

Inside the three-story, light blue hotel is a big, open lobby with wood floors and sea-glass vases. In the center of the room is a sitting area with patterned fabric chairs on a rug, and off to the side is the breakfast room with a flat-screen TV where guests crowd to get a seat at one of the small wooden tables or at a long marble-top table. Outside is a pool with a concrete deck and lounge chairs with umbrellas. Fenced off in a separate section is the children’s pool. A third section houses a small lazy river. A wooden walkway leads through grassy dunes and wooden steps take guests down to a long, sandy beach that stretches on for miles.

Location

On the beach, a 15-minute drive from both Corolla and Duck

Hampton Inn & Suites Outer Banks is on the beach between the towns of Duck and Corolla. It’s a 15-minute drive to either town, both of which have seafood and pizza restaurants. Those with a four-wheel-drive vehicle can head north of Corolla to try to spot the region's famous wild banker horses. The hotel is also within a 35-minute drive to Kitty Hawk. The Norfolk International Airport takes just under two hours to reach by car.

Rooms

Spacious rooms with small furnished patios or balconies, some with ocean views

The Hampton Inn & Suites has carpeted rooms with blue-green accent walls, matching wood furnishings, ceiling fans, and red couches. Framed photos of seashells add a beach vibe. All rooms have coffeemakers, microwaves, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi, and suites come with kitchenettes. Bathrooms are generic but spacious, with shower/tub combos and big countertops. Past guests recommend higher rooms with balconies facing the ocean, as these have gorgeous views.

Features

Indoor and outdoor pools, lazy river, free breakfast, and direct beach access

The hotel has direct access to a beautiful, sandy beach, but the rickety wooden steps may pose a problem for some guests. There’s an outdoor pool with a separate children’s pool as well as a small lazy river. There’s also an indoor pool with a hot tub that's open throughout the year. Free coffee is available all day long in the lobby and free breakfast is served in the mornings at "On the House," the hotel's breakfast room. There's also a business center with two computers and a printer. Coin-operated laundry machines are available, and an on-site convenience store sells snacks, sodas, and sunblock. Parking is free.
