The Trenance Holiday Park is a budget campground that offers three types of accommodation: campsite, caravan (trailer), and chalet (cabin). The Park's selling point is its hilltop location near central Newquay, a notorious seaside party town, and clientele consists of families, backpackers, and couples. Some caravans and chalets are more modern than others, but all include small flat-screen TVs, bathrooms, and outdoor decks. Guests in campsites share rest rooms and showers. On-site features include a basic cafe, an arcade, and a mini-mart. For a more traditional hotel stay in Newquay, travelers should check rates at The Esplanade Hotel, a mid-range option near the Newquay Golf Club.
Scene
Simple, clean, no-frills camping experience outside a party-hard town
The Trenance Holiday Park is exactly what it professes to be: a simple, clean campground with traditional camping amenities at budget-friendly prices. There is not much to do on the site; the property is a utilitarian place to rest and refuel. The clientele consists mostly of older couples, foreign campers, backpackers, and families on a budget. There is little privacy for guests, especially campers in tents, who share the shower blocks. Newquay is a party town that attracts visitors from outside Cornwall, and party-oriented guests will be able to stagger home after a night of clubbing, but the campground is generally peaceful, not a party hotspot. In general, the facilities are a bit tired, but everything is well kept and the area is safe for all ages. Finicky guests will find plenty to complain about, but those who go with the flow, and appreciate the great location and price will find this a fine choice.
Location
In the center of Newquay, next to the municipal Leisure Park
The Trenance Holiday Park is located on a
steep hill near Newquay's center. The town known for its heavy
nightlife scene. Local residents tend to stay away from the boozy clubs and
fast food joints in Newquay, which is more of a party destination for
outsiders. The Trenance is within walking distance of the
local bars, shops, and restaurants -- it takes about 15 minutes to reach the center of town on foot. The 26-acre Newquay Leisure
Park is located next door; this municipal park offers two pools, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a
boating lake, miniature golf, and more (there is a fee for use of the
facilities). At night, the sound of traffic can be heard from most campsites,
and some chalets may pick up the roar of a high speed train passing by. Towan Beach can be reached in 15 minutes on foot, or a five-minute drive, and the bus and railway station are even closer. Newquay Cornwall Airport is a 15-minute drive from the Trenance.
Rooms
Caravans and chalets with kitchens and running water plus campsites
Accommodation at the Trenance Holiday Park comes in three varieties: campsites, caravans, and chalets -- Americans will know the latter two by the names "trailer" and "cabin." Accommodations have a basic, no-frills air about them, but they are neat and tidy, and provide the necessary comforts a holiday-maker might need. Basic campsites have free parking, and campers share common
toilets, a dishwashing room with free hot water, and a shower block; there is a
charge for using the showers. Caravans, or trailers, come in two-, four-, and six-bed
configurations and have running water, gas stoves, private bathrooms with tiny, but adequate, shower stalls, plus mini-fridges and small flat-screen TVs. The decor is basic but clean, and the caravans are stocked with dishes, mops, and cleaning
tools. There are big windows that let in lots of light. There are some brand
new caravans; guests should request these when they book, as others can be a bit worn and tired. Chalets are stand-alone cabins made of cedar and completely furnished. They sleep four to
six guests and come with cheerfully designed kitchens that include stoves,
refrigerator, microwaves, and small bathrooms with a shower and toilet.
Chalets are heated, and have small flat-screen TVs. Guests should bring their own sheets
and towels, as linen service is not provided. Some chalets are located near the
high speed train track and may get some late night noise. Wi-Fi is available for free only in the reception and cafe.
Features
A small cafe, mini-mart, arcade, pool table, and laundry facilities
The Trenance Holiday Park features a mini-mart that is stocked with food, cleaning supplies, beach toys, boogie boards, and more. There is a simple, straightforward cafe on-site serving hot meals (including breakfast) and take-out. The cafe is clean and tidy, with tile floors and black-and-white surfing photos on the walls. There are pool and foosball tables available to guests, as well as an arcade. Laundry facilities are available. Free Wi-Fi is offered in reception and the cafe. Next door at the Municipal Leisure Park, there are plenty of activities for families and sports-minded guests, including swimming, golf, and tennis. There is a fee for use of the park.
