The Tide House

The four-pearl Tide House is a stone-faced townhouse dating back to 1540 that is spacious and modern on the inside. The sophisticated decor has a bright, nautical elegance, with lots of weathered wood, natural materials, striped canvas upholstery, and local artwork alongside features like a wood-burning stove surrounded by cozy sofas and armchairs. An ideal retreat for a family or group of friends, the home is stocked with board games, DVDs, books, and toys for kids located in The Snug, or den, which is furnished with floor pillows and comfy spots to cuddle up. There is a walled garden for relaxing and a grill for cooking outdoors. The walls are covered with gorgeous oyster shell-like tiles, reminiscent of the landscape just outside. The house is airy and open, with a vacation vibe that combines comfort and style. Tide House is a beautiful spot for a family getaway, and earns its descriptor: a “bolt-hole” or hideaway by the sea.

The Tide House is located on a quiet side street in the center of the historic seaside town of St. Ives. The property sits on Skidden Hill, the former medieval road into town. St. Ives has an artsy vibe, with many galleries dotting its streets, and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is just a five-minute walk from the hotel. Tide House is close to the harbor, and there are restaurants, bars, and galleries in almost any direction. The town's pretty beach is five minutes away on foot, and guests looking to explore some of the Cornwall coast's iconic scenery are only a 10-minute walk from the Southwest Coast Path, England's longest hiking trail. The Newquay Cornwall Airport is an hour from the house by car and the St. Ives train station, with connections to London, is a five-minute walk from the house.

Each room at the Tide House is spotlessly clean, individually designed and decorated, and named after a nearby lighthouse -- the look in all rooms is, thus, appropriately (but subtly) nautical. Some rooms have outdoor deck space; some are duplexes. The decor is breezy and contemporary, with lots of sunlight and bright white walls, as well as natural woods, stone, and tile. There is a room with bunk beds for kids. Beds use Hypnos mattresses, a luxury that the Queen of England herself employs in her own residences. Each bedroom has a private bathroom that are sleek and stylish; some have free-standing soaking tubs while others have double sinks or walk-in rainfall showers or ultra-modern fixtures. Whatever the features of a particular room, the feel is luxurious, and there is a Cornish seaside vibe. Amenities include flat-screen TVs with DVD players and free toiletries. Wi-Fi is free throughout the house. 

The Tide House has few standard hotel amenities, but provides everything guests could want in a seaside vacation home. There is a game room with plenty of board games and kids' toys. The house is stocked with a variety of books and has a DVD library for use with one of the many DVD players. The wood-burning stove offers ultimate coziness on chilly nights. A spacious kitchen is well-equipped for ambitious cooks and there is a large dining table. Cozy lounges provide big, plush couches and huge wall-mounted flat-screen TVs. There is a sunny but sheltered courtyard where guests can soak in the rays or enjoy a glass of wine in privacy. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
