The 213 rooms at the Louis Ionian Sun are contained in a long five-story building that's connected to a pebble beach by a pedestrian overpass. The property is situated between the resort towns of Benitses and Moraitika, both of which are accessible by car or bus. Rooms are clean and plain and while the resort is geared towards families with children, regular rooms are a bit small for entire families. There aren't any shops or restaurants immediately surrounding the hotel, but all-inclusive meal plans are available. Wasps are common on the island in late summer because of the grape harvest; guests should be aware that the insects can be aggressive.
Scene
A medium-size hotel popular with vacationing families
The rooms here are contained within a long, five-story stucco building that appears aseptic from the outside, though it does have plenty of lovely areas to sit and enjoy the sea breeze and views of the water. The interior retains a '70s feel, with linoleum floors in some hallways. The lobby is bright and airy, with large windows and plenty of lounge chairs. The grounds have a large number of facilities geared towards families, including a couple of separate kiddie pools, an outdoor play area, and a snack bar designed specifically for children. The beaches are pebbly and shoes or sandals are recommended.
Location
On a pebble beach between Benitses and Moraitika
The Louis Ionian Sun is situated between the towns of Benitses and Moraitika, in an area without much commerce. The resort is off a busy coastal road that's unsuitable for walking, making it necessary to drive to the nearby resort towns, both of which are about five minutes or so away. The Corfu Airport is 25 minutes away by car and the hotel can arrange a taxi transfer with advance notice.
Rooms
Basic, traditional with wood floors; some have tiled patios
The rooms here are basic but still have some charm, featuring traditional wood furniture, wrought-iron accents, wood floors, white walls, plain bedding, and very little artwork or decorations. All come with air-conditioning, safes, and wall-mounted TVs. Bathrooms have showers with tubs and soap dispensers, but no free toiletries. Guests with children may want to book one of the apartment-style suites, as regular rooms are too small to accommodate families. Standard Double Rooms may contain two double beds pushed together.
Features
A restaurant, separate pool and snack bar for children, and an outdoor bar for adults
The hotel has a restaurant by the sea and past guests have reported that the quality and variety of the food is excellent. There's also a bar that's shaded by a thatched roof. A mini-disco for children takes place on some evenings and there are plenty of children’s play spaces, including a playground covered with sand and two kiddie pools, one with a waterslide. Although there's a heavy focus on children at the property, there are a few amenities for adults, including an adult pool, tennis courts, and a billiards table.
