The 129-room Hotel Magna Graecia is a three-pearl hotel popular with tourists and families who want organized entertainment and all-inclusive meal packages. It's not recommended for those looking for a quiet stay as loud music by the pool, group sports, and free drinks can lead to a party vibe. Rooms are clean and decorated with soft earth colors and big flat-screen TVs mounted to the wall. However, there are regular reports of overbooking rooms and some guests find themselves temporarily rerouted to apartments up the hill. Two swimming pools and worn tennis courts are just some of the available recreational facilities. If fast beach access is what you're looking for, check rates at nearby Elea Beach Hotel.
Scene
Lively, budget hotel
The scene at Hotel Magna Graecia isn't an off-the-charts party but it's definitely lively and focused heavily on organized group activities for kids and adults. The all-inclusive package with free drinks (up to a certain hour) makes the bar, decorated to look like an antique boat, a popular spot. One of the outdoor pools is often busy with yoga classes and pool sports. The second pool has a quieter annex. Tiered outdoor decks offer distant Ionian Sea views down a tree covered hillside. Indoors, the lobby is bright and airy. Clusters of navy blue slipcovered sofas offer a spot to relax and use free Wi-Fi.
Location
In the village of Dassia
The hotel is built in the tourist-friendly village of Dassia. Neighboring buildings consist of two other medium-sized hotels. Restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance or there's a bus stop just outside the hotel's main entrance to bring passengers into Corfu. Parking at the hotel is free. Hotel Magna Graecia doesn't have beach access though it's close to Dassia Beach, Pyrgi Beach, and Barbati Beach via scooter or car.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with furnished balconies -- bathrooms are in need of a refresh
There are 129 rooms on five floors (beware of basement rooms with poor lighting and a musty smell) at Hotel Magna Graecia. The top-floor rooms facing the distant Ionian Sea have the best views. Bedrooms look fresh with dark wood accents and soft desert colors of pink and sand. Large flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges are nice touches, as is a furnished balcony. The bathrooms don't quite match the bedrooms. Single sinks and wooden toilet seats look old. There isn't much room for storing toiletries and partial glass encased shower/tub combos show wear. Products include packages of bar soap and shampoo/shower gel.
Features
All-inclusive meals and drinks, group activities, and two swimming pools
Features at Hotel Magna Graecia are focused on bringing guests from around the world together to socialize and participate in activities. Mumbo Jumbo is the name of the entertainment team and members organize pool sports and games, mostly outdoors, throughout the day. There's a worn tennis court, kids' playground, and a ping-pong table. Video games straight out of the '80s are set up in the lobby. Two swimming pools are a nice size and there are ample sun loungers. Massages are available upon request.
All-inclusive meals and beverages (alcohol is charged after a certain hour) come with the price of the room. Breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style to mostly good reviews.
