Scene
Lovely boutique hotel inside Tivoli Gardens
The Nimb Hotel was built more than a century ago by Knud Arne-Petersen, the head architect at Tivoli. The original design was that of an Arab fantasy castle, although a 2007 revamp saw a huge amount of updating, including the integration of Dinnesen wood floors and Oland granite in the interiors. From the the street, the Nimb looks as if it could be a department store, and it shares a building with neighboring businesses, including a bakery. But from the Tivoli Gardens, it still looks like an arabesque castle, with onion-shaped domes and turrets in shimmering white Italian marble stucco. Inside is a contemporary foyer with a structure made from tree branches at its center and a restaurant off to one side. The lobby has a small gray velvet couch and muted tones that blend with the hotel's low-key, modern Nordic vibe. Large vases full of flowers are found throughout the common areas, adding a bit of color -- and warmth -- to the neutral-toned interiors. The Nimb Brassiere and Bar (where breakfast is served) has a dark, cozy atmosphere with views of the Tivoli Gardens. The brasserie is huge, with four main seating areas, and although it was also refurbished in 2012, it has retained its turn-of-the century grandeur. Guests are mix of leisure travelers, who appreciated the convenience of the Tivoli Gardens location, and business travelers.
Location
Across the street from the railway station, in the Tivoli Gardens complex
The Nimb Hotel is located on the busy five-lane Bernstorffsgade Road, across the street from the main railway station. As the hotel is in the Tivoli Gardens complex, there's a large number of shops, bars, and restaurants within walking distance. The airport is a 20-minute drive or metro ride away, and most of Copenhagen's major attractions are easily reached by public transportation.
Rooms
Upscale rooms that blend antique and modern elements
There are 12 suites and five rooms at the Nimb Hotel, all of which come with integrated iPod docks, which are left on so that newly arrived guests enter their rooms to the sounds of ambient jazz. The rooms are tasteful and luxurious, and have a homey feel thanks to the beautifully picked fresh flowers (including live orchids). The furniture is a mix of classic and modern, with neutral grays, whites, and browns that match the common areas, hardwood floors, huge antique wooden wardrobes, and walnut four-poster beds. All rooms come with slippers, bathrobes, safes, free Wi-Fi, and entertainment systems. Most rooms also have fireplaces and views of Tivoli. The bathrooms are well-lit and elegant, with beautiful designer fixtures and fittings, and freestanding baths (except in room 14, which has only a shower). Toiletries come from the Australian luxury cosmetics brand Aesop.
Features
Numerous on-site dining choices
The Nimb Hotel has plenty of event space -- a round ballroom with hanging chandeliers is one of the more whimsical spaces -- and weddings and business functions are often held here. A daily and varied continental breakfast is served in the Nimb Brasserie, although there's an extra fee for hot items. Lunch and dinner are also served in the Brasserie. Wine aficionados can head to the Vinotek wine bar and restaurant, which has a sommelier on staff. Nimb Terrase restaurant focuses on seasonal cuisine (including a lot of seafood). Brunch and afternoon tea are served in the Nimb Bar during the day, although the focus turns to stiff drinks and cocktails in the evening. Because of the hotel's location, admission to Tivoli is free.
