Hotels in Copenhagen are usually pricey, but budget properties like Hotel Windsor give travelers an affordable place to stay, but with little in the way of perks. Like many others in this category, the two-pearl property is quaint. The 63 rooms are private and come with flat-screen TVs and attractive sinks. However, with shared bathrooms, no air-conditioning, and thin walls, it’s not an ideal arrangement for all. A free breakfast and Wi-Fi are the extent of the amenities. While a location in Copenhagen’s city center is fabulous, no elevator to the hotel’s reception on the third floor can be a drag. For travelers who don’t want to share a bathroom, consider Somandshjemmet Bethel which also offers a free breakfast, public computers, and canal views.
Scene
Budget hotel with a cozy breakfast lounge and tourist clientele
Hotel Windsor occupies a few floors of a lovely white building. However, upon arrival guests must note a few things. First, that reception has limited hours and sometimes guests must pick up their keys at a sister hotel, Hotel Jørgensen, which is a two-minute walk away. The hotel also begins on the third floor and there’s only a narrow set of stairs for guests to access, making it a poor choice for little kids or people with mobility issues. The hotel interiors are limited in space and feature narrow, plain white halls. The only public space is the breakfast room that doubles as a lounge. Brick walls, dated wooden furniture, and cozy couches create an overall homey atmosphere, brightened by the effect of large windows and potted plants. The hotel is mostly popular with couples, solo travelers, or friends on a budget.
Location
Central Copenhagen location makes it easy to reach attractions like Copenhagen Cathedral in a 10-minute walk
Hotel Windsor’s location is excellent. It’s located a four-minute walk south of the Lakes in Copenhagen’s city center smack dab between Orstedparken and the Botanical Gardens. The area is filled with restaurants and there's a metro stop that's just a minutes’ walk away, though it’s not really needed as most attractions are within walking distance. Rosenborg Castle and Copenhagen Cathedral take nine minutes to reach on foot. King’s New Square is a 15-minute walk away. It’s a 21-minute drive to Copenhagen Airport.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with artistic elements, flat-screen TVs, and shared bathrooms
All rooms are private and decorated with a contemporary and simple look. The generic bed frames lack a headboard and feature less-than-attractive brown or random orange and blue silk bedding. The art and decorative elements in the rooms are more charming with trendy hanging lights, plant displays, and retro furniture. Flat-screen TVs, sinks, and free Wi-Fi make up the amenities -- air-conditioning and kettles aren't available. Rooms are clean, though there’s generally an issue with thin walls and bothersome noise.Shared bathrooms are located in the hallways. They’re small, but functional with showers that aren’t separated from the sink and toilet areas. Hairdryers are placed in the bathrooms. Be sure to bring your own toiletries as only hand soap is provided.
Features
Free amenities include Wi-Fi and a cold breakfast
Hotel Windsor doesn’t have many facilities or amenities. The only public space is the breakfast room where a free breakfast is provided that includes pastries, cold cuts, cheeses, coffee, and tea. Beyond the breakfast, the only other amenity is free Wi-Fi.
