Bottom Line

The two-and-a-half-pearl Hotel Osterport is a convenient base for budget-conscious travelers seeking modern accommodations who don't mind staying slightly outside the city center. Its 170 guest rooms have decor that's simple with attractive touches, and all units come with flat-screen TVs, upholstered armchairs, desks, and free Wi-Fi. There's a daily breakfast buffet on offer in a stylish room, but it's only free for guests who book through the hotel’s website. Other highlights include a 24-hour bar and lounge, and lobby computers that are free to use, but there's no on-site parking. Travelers seeking accommodations with kitchens can check out Adina Apartment Hotels Copenhagen, but it costs a bit more.

Scene

Business and leisure travelers on the move stop at the 24-hour lobby bar and lounge

The modern, no-frills Hotel Osterport, formerly First Hotel Osterport, faces Osterport Station, and guests who stay at the property seem to come and go as often as the trains. The lobby has an all-glass facade, offering a bright space to watch the world go by, or to plop down with a laptop in the lounge. There's also a small lobby bar that’s open 24/7, which reflects the hotel's clientele  -- a mix of budget-conscious business and leisure travelers who aren't staying longer than a couple of nights. Other than the lobby and its bar, the chic breakfast room is the only other spot where guests tend to gather.

Location

Conveniently located next to Osterport Station, but far from top sights

The hotel is conveniently located next to Osterport Station. Other than people here for trains and the steady stream of bicyclists on a path in front of the hotel, the area is rather sleepy. There area a few restaurants and a grocery store about five minutes away on foot. But the property doesn't suit tourists who want to be within walking distance of top sights. Using public transportation, it's 11 minutes to Tivoli Gardens, 12 minutes to The National Museum, 14 minutes to Copenhagen City Hall, and 15 minutes to shops on Stroge. The ferry terminal at the Port of Copenhagen can be reached in about 17 minutes via public transit, and Copenhagen Opera House is about a 21-minute ride on public transit from the hotel. Copenhagen Airport is approximately 29 minutes by train. Copenhagen Central Station, which offers train service throughout Denmark and to Sweden, is a 14-minute train ride.

Rooms

Attractive decor, with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, but noise from nearby trains

Guest rooms are modern, with simple decor and a few stylish touches. There are attractive, red velvet armchairs with brushed chrome frames, blonde-wood headboards with attached shelves, and tailored, charcoal-gray bedskirts. All units also have desks, roomy closets with mirrored doors, plus flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are more basic. Soap and shampoo are provided in wall-mounted dispensers, there are hairdryers, and some have shower/tub combos with removable showerheads instead of stall showers. The biggest issue with these rooms -- at least for those facing the railway lines -- is noise from evening trains. Some guests say the noise is at acceptable levels, while others say it interferes with their sleep. Some guests also report hearing noise from neighboring rooms. Regardless, free ear plugs are provided.

Features

Breakfast buffet, 24/7 lobby bar, and free Wi-Fi, but no on-site parking

Amenities at this hotel are limited, but it offers a few nice eating and drinking options. A daily hot breakfast buffet that includes eggs, cold cuts and cheeses, and baked goods is free for guests who book through the hotel's website. The lobby bar is open 24/7, and serves a variety of cocktails, wine, and beer. There are also vending machines with beverages including beer. The two computers and printer in the lobby are free to use, and so is Wi-Fi throughout. Valet laundry is available for an extra charge, as is a baggage transport service that takes luggage between the hotel and the airport. Pets are welcome for a fee. There's no on-site parking, but public parking is nearby.
