Hotel Kong Arthur

Situated in a beautiful grand old building on a quiet Copenhagen street, the Hotel Kong Arthur blends modern Danish design with both Asian and medieval inflections. The lobby -- with its modern chandelier over the entrance, fresh bamboo arrangements, and Asian-style tapestries -- hints at the style found in the Thai spa, where colorful silk pillows, Thai statuettes, and more bamboo set the scene. The lobby opens up into an airy room of blue and brown brocaded couches and lounge chairs, with walls hung with medieval-style shields, and a roaring fireplace. Hallways are lined with butterfly murals, inspirational proverbs, and Asian-inspired ornaments. In warmer weather, there's a pleasant courtyard where guests can sit and diners at any of the three restaurants can dine.

The hotel attracts a range of guests, from tourists to business travelers attracted by its myriad event facilities.

The hotel is situated just on the edge of the city center’s tourist district, in a picturesque, residential area with shops, restaurants and bars within a two- or three-minute walk. The area is one of Copenhagen’s nicest, with many historic buildings and market stalls; the city’s renowned man-made lakes are just down the street, and visible from many rooms. The nearest metro stop (Norreport) is less than a 10-minute walk away and, from there, any area of the city can be reached in 15-minutes or less. Even the airport is just a 15-minute ride away. The Tivoli gardens and Rosenborg palace are each about a 15-minute walk from the hotel, and Amalienborg is about 20 minutes away on foot.

The Hotel Kong Arthur has 155 rooms of varying sizes, all equipped with free Wi-Fi, a limited minibar, flat-screen TV, coffee- and tea-making facilities, desk and chair, safe, and hairdryer. Beds, TVs, wooden headboards, and linens look shiny and new, but some rooms have dated elements. In general, the style is bright and modern -- with colorful drapes, white walls, and industrial-style desks -- but the more recently renovated Spa Rooms have deep purple walls and Buddhist figurines. Most rooms have plenty of space and bathrooms are large, if simple in style, with white-tile showers and granite vanities; some have combination shower-tubs, while others lack tubs entirely. Suites include long, separated lounge areas and more windows, some of which look out onto the courtyard and others onto the street. They are all relatively soundproof and quiet, although some guests have complained of courtyard noise and thin walls. It's worth noting that most rooms do not have air-conditioning.

The unique Ni'mat Thai spa is a standout feature at the Kong Arthur, with its beautiful Asian setting, pillar-enveloped hot tub, and wide range of massages, facials, and body treatments. There are also three restaurants: an upscale Italian restaurant, a Spanish tapas place, and a Japanese sushi restaurant. Breakfast buffet is served daily and room service is available 24-hours a day. There's a lobby bar and lounge that's open 24-hours. Guests get a free daily happy hour in the lobby. Bicycles are available to rent and the penthouse apartment is home to an art gallery featuring changing exhibitions of contemporary Danish artwork.

There is free W-Fi throughout, several meeting rooms with TVs and audio/video equipment, and an outdoor conference garden. Expect to pay extra for parking.
