Scene
Tourist hotel with vintage feel
The Alexandra's vintage atmosphere is deliberate, stylish, and classy -- a '50s and '60s Danish aesthetic pervades the common areas as well as the rooms. Every element of the hotel's decor has been approached from a mid-20th-century perspective, right down to the staff’s uniforms and the music piped into the lobby. The art on display also fits with the theme, with pieces detailing iconic Danish furniture, such as the famous egg chair. While the hotel might look as if it belongs in the last century, it was renovated in 2014, and so everything is in 21st-century working order.
Location
On an enormous busy road near the train station
The Alexandra is situated on an enormous multi-lane road that runs right through the center of Copenhagen. The hotel looks out on quintessentially Danish historical buildings that house mainly offices. There are many shops, bars, and restaurants within a few minutes' walk from the hotel. Public transportation connections are great -- the hotel is within a 10-minute walk of the main train station. The popular Tivoli Gardens are also about 10 minutes away on foot. The airport is 20 minutes away by car or public transportation.
Rooms
Soundproof rooms and suites with vintage decor
Rooms, all with retro decor, have white walls and stylish pieces of Danish furniture, and range from tiny single rooms with courtyard views to individually styled suites. In the middle range are Twin and Double Rooms with views either of the busy boulevard, a side street, or the courtyard. Rooms have been soundproofed, which is especially important for guests in rooms facing busy Hans Christian Andersen Boulevard. All come with flat-screen TVs, kettles, fans, and free Wi-Fi. The retro theme continues in the bathrooms, which have vintage fixtures and fittings -- most also have tubs.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, bike rentals, and an on-site independent restaurant
Amenities are limited at the Alexandra, although there are bicycle rentals as well as free Wi-Fi, and a computer available for guests' use. The on-site restaurant, Lele Street Kitchen, is separately owned, but is where guests can gather for breakfast, which is not included in the room rate.
