One of the most affordable hotels in central Copenhagen, Hotel Nebo is popular with budget travelers just looking for a place to sleep and leave a bag while exploring the city. The hotel is half a block from the central train station (which can be seedy at night), and within minutes of Tivoli and other central sights. Rooms with private and shared bathrooms are available, and there's free Wi-Fi, a private courtyard, and a reasonably priced breakfast. It won't win any awards, but the price is hard to beat in a city as expensive as Copenhagen.
Scene
Eclectic, dated decor in an historic building with a pleasant courtyard
The Hotel Nebo is located in a pretty, historic building, but its aesthetic charm stops there. The lobby looks dated, with green carpeting, a leather couch, yellow chairs, a coffee table, and a grandfather clock; there's also a screen with a list of all of the airport’s upcoming departures, indicating the hotel's intended purposes as a stopover spot. The elevator it notably small, and the staircase, like the lobby, features a random assortment of prints on the wall, as well as eclectic decor like a suit of armor and Asian sculptures. The breakfast room is small but bright, maintaining the same retro green color scheme. The most pleasant place in the hotel is the spacious courtyard with umbrella-shaded tables and chairs, and a garden with a fountain.
Location
Down the block from the train station, within walking distance to central Copenhagen sights
Copenhagen's central train station is just down the block from the Hotel Nebo; Tivoli is located just on the other side, and the popular Vestebro area -- with its numerous shops,
restaurants, and bars -- is about 10-minutes away on foot. Guests can easily reach the zoo and Carlsberg on foot in 20-minutes or less. Thanks to the proximity of public transportation, the
airport is less that 20-minutes away. It's worth noting that the hotel is on the edge of the red light district so there can be some seedy characters on the street at night.
Rooms
Basic and tired, with both private and shared bath options
Hotel Nebo has 84 rooms, ranging in size from Economy to Family, although the hotel is not especially popular with families. Rooms are decorated very basically, with vintage-style coverlets, carpeted floors, and cheap wooden furniture -- some rooms have slightly newer, Ikea-style furnishings, while others have floral prints and 1980s-style furniture. Higher-tier rooms include private bathrooms, while the Economy rooms share a
toilet and bath in the hall. The Economy rooms are small, with a
twin-sized bed and a wardrobe, and barely any space to move around. Family rooms have a fold-out couch, coffee table, and considerably more floor space, as well as a mini-fridge. All rooms include a TV, safe, desk, and chair, as well as free Wi-Fi. The private bathrooms are cramped in size, but tend to be cleaner than the shared bathrooms, although some guests complain of the general level of housekeeping overall. Note that walls are thin and front-facing rooms get street noise.
Features
Paid breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, bike rentals, and courtyard
Besides free Wi-Fi and a reasonably priced breakfast buffet -- comprised of boiled eggs, cooked meats, bread, jam,
cereal, yogurt, juice, and coffee -- Hotel Nebo has few facilities. The front desk is open 24-hours, and offers
luggage storage, bike rentals, and a laundry service. A computer and printer are available in the lobby for guests' use, and the private garden courtyard has sitting areas where guests can lounge between excursions.
