Bottom Line
A modern yet romantic alternative to the chain hotels in the touristy parts of central Copenhagen, Bertrams, part of the eco-friendly Guldsmeden chain, is located in the hip, residential Vosterbro District. Its 47 lovely rooms -- with four-poster beds and claw-foot tubs -- mix modern Danish design with Balinese touches. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, and an impressive organic breakfast buffet. Although amenities are limited -- there's no spa, fitness center, or business center -- there is a large lounge area and a stunning breakfast room, terrace, lobby, and garden.

Beautifully furnished common areas with antiques and a subtle dragonfly theme
Run by a friendly couple, this property is filled with personal touches. The decor is immaculately put together, with seamlessly matched antiques. The theme seems to be dragonflies, often reflected subtly as in a tile in the garden walkway. In the lovely lit lobby, cow prints adorn some of the chairs and couches, and there's a big bamboo feature against one of the walls. Bertrams seems to gear itself toward tourist couples -- no children under 18 are allowed -- although its free Wi-Fi and proximity to the city center could make it a good choice for business travelers too. While there's no dedicated business center, the lounge is split up into a few separate areas, providing some privacy for meetings.
Location
On a busy road in Vesterbro, not too far from downtown
The hotel is situated on a busy street in the Vesterbro District, which is within a 15-minute walk of Lyshojgardsvej, the central rail station. Its on a street with lots of shops and several small cafes. Frederiksberg Gardens is a little more than a half mile away. There's a bus stop right in front of the hotel, and several major attractions are within a 10- to 15-minute bike ride. The airport is within a 15-minute drive.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with four-poster beds and clawfoot tubs
The rooms have a light, contemporary feel, with white, grey, taupe, and black color schemes, piebald cowhide chairs, and lightwood four-poster beds draped with white fabric and tied back with natural twine fringed with bunches of shells. Bathrooms come with large bottles of eco-friendly toiletries and clawfoot tubs. Because the hotel is L-shaped, many of the balconies have views of rooms on the adjacent side of the building, which means some rooms don't feel private. All rooms have double-glazed windows, which does a great job of keeping the sound out, even in rooms overlooking the busy road, where only a low rumbling of traffic can be heard. The hotel doesn't have air-conditioning, but fans are provided in rooms.
Features
Bike rentals and a glorious breakfast spread
Many of the rooms at Bertrams look out onto a pretty garden terrace with plenty of seating, including a secluded covered area where guests can take shelter when it rains. Hot drinks and snacks are available for purchase throughout the day. An organic breakfast buffet is served every morning, and includes breads, pastries, eggs, meats, cheeses, and homemade banana bread. Bicycle rentals are available on-site. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property, and while there's no on-site parking, there is a lot nearby (for a fee).
