Scene
Large upscale hotel with lots of amenities at Foxwoods Resort and Casino
The Fox Tower is one of four hotels that are part of the Foxwoods Resort and Casino. Built in 2008, the Fox Tower (formerly called the MGM Grand at Foxwoods) has curved ends and a circular center with a glistening window-wall facade. The high-rise's central, circular lobby delivers sleekness, with marble details, a center fountain, and cylindrical lights that hang staggered from a high ceiling. Floor-to-ceiling windows on one side of the lobby let in lots of light, especially over the carpeted sitting area scattered with armchairs and square seats. Foxwoods is the main draw for guests, but the hotel also attracts business travelers attending on-site conventions, or those here to attend a show at the Grand Theater or the "Liquid Sundays" pool party.
Location
Connected to Foxwoods Resort and Casino via walkway; a 10-minute walk to main casino
Situated within the Foxwoods complex in the middle of of the Mashantucket Pequot Indian Reservation and surrounded by forest, the Fox Tower is connected to the Foxwoods Resort and Casino by a walkway. Some guests complain that the main casino (and most of the Foxwoods fare) is too far from the tower -- it's about a 10-minute walk via the walkway -- but the property has its own nightclub and small casino, along with the Grand Theater. And it's close to the complex's shopping mall. Foxwoods is about a 20-minute drive from Mystic Seaport, from the Mohegan Sun, and from the New London Amtrak stop. For guests arriving by car, the hotel is about 20 minutes off I-95, and on-site valet parking is free. Many buses also stop at the casino.
Rooms
Chic, thoughtful modern decor and spacious bathrooms with luxurious showers
The 856 rooms at the Fox Tower are chic and modern, with decor that feels both luxe and welcoming. In Deluxe King Rooms a sea-blue-and-chocolate brown color palette creates a homey feel, in the best sense of the word. Blue wall-to-wall carpeting features brown concentric circles (possibly an homage to Fox Tower's circular shape), while a blue accent wall and curtains create a playful vibe. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in lots of a natural light, and show off the forest that surrounds the property. While rooms range in size and color schemes, the ambience is chic and contemporary, with consciously selected details that go beyond standard hotel fare. All rooms include desks with ergonomic chairs, armchairs, and 32-inch flat-screen TVs with video on demand. Rooms also include free Wi-Fi and coffee- and tea-making facilities, though there are no mini-fridges or minibars. Bathrooms are neutral beige but modern and spacious, and guests rave about the huge showers. Bathrooms provide toiletries and hairdryers. Rooms on high floors offer the most expansive views.
