Hampton Inn North Main District Durango

Fully renovated in 2013, Hampton Inn Durango is a modern chain hotel that attracts mostly families and couples on vacation. The tan and cream hotel is surrounded by a parking lot with views of mountains and trees in the foreground and background. Inside the lobby, there’s a contemporary design of wooden floors, tables and chairs where guests can sit and interact, and a cozy seating area next to a stone fireplace with brown leather chairs. Small touches like trendy wooden block coffee tables and black and white photographs provide this hotel some semblance of individuality from the mostly chain decor. Though the lobby is the main public area, there is a small outdoor patio with seating. 

One of the best aspects of the location is that the Hampton Inn Durango sits on one of the trolley stops that take guests to downtown Durango, about a six-minute drive away. There’s not much in the immediate area besides a few restaurants within walking distance and the Animas River, a seven-minute walk away. However, built just off Highway 160, it’s fairly easy for visitors to head to local attractions like the Mesa Verde National Park, a 40-minute drive away. It’s just a three-minute drive to the San Juan National Forest and an hour from the Chimney Rock National Monument. The Durango La Plata County Airport is a 25-minute drive away. 

The rooms at Hampton Inn Durango are clean and modern, but generic in style. They’re composed of dark red carpet and curtains, white bedding, and streamlined dark grayish brown furniture. Though it's not a particularly business-focused hotel, all rooms are complete with desks and ergonomic chairs. Other amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Microwaves are not available. Bathrooms have tan color schemes with wood floors, granite sinks, and shower/tub combos. Neutrogena toiletries and hairdryers are provided. 

The hotel offers ample amenities that are typical of Hampton Inns, except this one doesn't have an on-site fitness center. However, the property tries to make up for that with a pass to a local recreation center with a gym. The biggest draw at the hotel is the indoor saltwater pool and hot tub. Every morning, free breakfast includes hot and cold items, and favorites like waffles. There isn't a restaurant or bar on-site, though cookies are put out in the evenings. Other amenities include a coin-operated laundry room, public computers, free Wi-Fi, and free outdoor parking. Pets are allowed for a non-refundable deposit.
