In the suburbs of Colorado Springs, the two-and-a-half-pearl Holiday Inn Express has clean, comfortable rooms with standard chain decor. Perks include free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, and a fitness
center. It's ideal for families and travelers who like to have suburban
comforts like an IMAX theater, Best Buy, and Whole Foods within walking
distance, but it's at least a 20-minute drive to get downtown and to other popular area attractions.
Scene
Standard chain hotel with pleasant lobby lounge and breakfast area
The exterior of this Holiday Inn looks like most others in
the chain; its expansive parking lot is flanked by large chain stores and restaurants. But
inside, the lobby features a cozy lounge area with a flat-screen TV and cushiony
lime-green chairs. The breakfast room has a classy lounge feel, with
high wooden tables and chairs, booths along the wall, and wooden tables for two
set apart in the corners. The hotel is a good choice for families and corporate travelers on budgets who need to do business in the neighborhood.
Location
In a suburban strip mall, away from the city center
This Holiday Inn is located within a large shopping complex facing a
parking lot on the northeast end of Colorado Springs. Dick’s Sporting Goods and
a Cinemark IMAX complex are each a three-minute walk away, and there's a
Whole Foods and a Best Buy a minute farther around the corner. Additional smaller stores
and restaurants are within a 10-minute walk. The Garden of the Gods is a 25-minute
drive away, Pikes Peak takes 30 minutes, downtown Colorado Springs takes about 20 minutes,
and the airport takes about 15 minutes without traffic.
Rooms
Clean, modern rooms with generic but not unpleasant chain decor
The rooms at the Holiday Inn Express have identical chain decor and furnishings, but are
comfortable and modern, plus immaculately kept. Most rooms have a lackluster
view onto the parking lot, but the mountains are visible in the distance. Mustard-colored walls and brown carpets look a bit drab. All
beds feature sleek wooden headboards, built-in lamps, and nightstands. Flat-screen
TVs sit over matching wooden desks, and each has a small, modern coffeemaker and a mini-fridge underneath. Unremarkable (but clean) bathrooms come with shower/tub combos and though they're small, they don't feel cramped.
Features
Indoor pool, small fitness center, 24-hour business center, and free parking, Wi-Fi, and breakfast
The indoor pool is surrounded by chairs in a dark room with a wall of small windows and a glass door on one wall. There's a small fitness center with a pair of treadmills and a stationary bike as well as a business area with two computers and a printer that's open 24 hours a day. The free breakfast spread has hot items including eggs and sausage and there's free Wi-Fi access in rooms
and throughout the hotel. There's also plenty of on-site parking available, free of charge.
